"After the UAMC discountinued use of the problematic underbarrel attachment, they sought ways to repurpose the grenade launchers themselves. While not an official Armat modification, the compact and easily usable Conversions have become very popular, allowing explosive ammunition typically reserved for much larger weapons to be used in a hand-held format."
―M41A2 Pulse Rifle description (from Aliens: Fireteam Elite)

The U1A2 was an underbarrel grenade launcher attachment for the Armat Battlefield Systems M41A2 Pulse Rifle. It was employed exclusively by the United States Colonial Marine Corps and underwent a field conversion, after which it was repurposed as a standalone, hand–held grenade launcher unofficially dubbed the U1A2 GL Conversion.

Development[]

Initially, the U1A2 was integrated with the M41A2, much like the U1 Grenade Launcher was with the M41A Pulse Rifle. However, six months after the M41A2's release, a third of the weapons misfired due to the grenade launcher being left with insufficient recoil suppression by unrelated changes to the MIL-STD-1971 attachment system. Acting on advice from Armat's gunsmiths, most armories set about stripping the existing M41A2s of their underbarrel attachment, and removing them from the design of newly manufactured models; as a result, UACM armories were saddled with a surplus of launchers and M47 HEDP grenades. To make good use of these leftovers, armorers from the UAS Humaitá developed an individual weapon with the U1A2 by fitting a grip, a stock and sight from other weapon schematics. The resulting hodgepodge enjoyed such popularity that the schematics were shared throughout the United Americas Fleet.[1]

Overview[]

The U1A2 fired M47 HEDP grenades, though it possessed a shorter range and reduced explosive punch compared to the M94 Impact Grenade, the M95 Grenade Launcher, and its own predecessor, the U1 Grenade Launcher. However, the conversion version was much smaller and handier, and could be used as a sidearm.[1]

Notable users[]

Initially integrated with the M41A2 Pulse Rifle in 2189, the first conversions were made in 2191 by the UAS Humaitá armorers for Colonial Marine use only.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The U1A2 GL Conversion appears in Aliens: Fireteam Elite as part of the Pathogen Expansion DLC and can be obtained by finishing the Promise of a Flower campaign in Intense difficulty. It can be equipped by Technician, Doc and Phalanx classes.
