Autopatrol given

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. 4nn1l2 (talk) 20:39, 19 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hallo KaiKemmann, I saw you made some changes about concrete casting. Do you know what the difference is between Category:Concrete casting and Category:Pouring concrete? My translate program gave about the same translation in Dutch. JopkeB (talk) 14:10, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That is a very good question, JopkeB.
My native language is German and I can only speculate that "pouring concrete" would be probably usually be seen as the actual act of pouring the concrete into the casing/formwork/mold while "casting concrete" sounds more technical and subject-specific and might encompass the whole process of constructing the casing, pouring concrete and eventually removing the formwork.
Category:Pouring concrete could either be merged into Category:Concrete casting or kept as a category with images of the liquid concrete being moved and poured into the casing.
best regards, KaiKemmann (talk) 16:41, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I have started a Discussion page about it, see Commons:Categories for discussion/2023/08/Category:Concrete casting. I hope you will join it, perhaps copy your description you gave here? I also started discussions about two other categories about concrete that are not clear to me, see Commons:Categories for discussion/2023/08/Category:Concrete architecture (about the difference with Concrete structures) and Commons:Categories for discussion/2023/08/Category:Composite of concrete. Perhaps you are interested in them as well? (I think that categories should be clear to everybody on Commons, native English speaker or not, with or without specific knowledge about a subject; a clear definition is basic.) JopkeB (talk) 09:01, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Casting makes castings: moulded pieces of concrete that are transported afterwards and set into place. It may be performed in a factory, or on an area of the site.
Poured concrete is poured in situ, controlled by temporary shuttering. Andy Dingley (talk) 12:54, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your comment, Andy Dingley.
Am I right to presume. though, that the term "casting" is mostly used in art or in industries other than the building sector (usually referring to ceramic or metal casts)?
To differentiate concrete cast in situ from concrete cast elsewhere and transported afterwards, the latter seems to be named prefabricated/ pre-cast/ precast concrete (unit/ element/ component). KaiKemmann (talk) 07:40, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@KaiKemmann: Hello, I agree with your respective definitions of casting concrete and pouring concrete. However, for me both are equivalent and can be used indifferently. I encountered both expressions and, personnally, I do not make any difference between them. I think that they are equivalent and that it is not necessary to make a clear distinction going into too much details. I would prefer to remain as general as possible. Naturally, the question is how to best merge these two categories and what category will be the main one. Possibly, we could have a look with a Google search on the respective use of both terms. The most frequently used could be the winner. It is difficult for me to justify what is the best name for this category and the choice will inevitably have an arbitrary character. Anyway, a merge of both categories seems me advisable and pouring concrete seems me more general than casting concrete in a framework.

I also agree with the two definitions just added by Andy Dingley:

  • Pouring concrete in situ
  • Casting in a factory (prefabrication), but I also saw directly casting in situ in a framework constructed on site.

So, casting implies to pour concrete in a framework, while concrete can also be directly poured on the soil, or on a large horizontal structure to construct a slab.

So, casting concrete could also be a subcategory of pouring concrete. Why not to make an hierarchy ? The most important is that both categories does not ignore the other one and to relate them properly.

Best regards, Shinkolobwe (talk) 13:27, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I was asked to comment here, but I have little to add to Andy Dingley and Shinkolobwe. Keep in mind a little detail: scientific writing discourages the use of plain English, hence "utilized" rather than "used", "acquire, obtain" rather than "get", "molding" rather than "shaping", etc., etc. This old (and perhaps odd) tradition is being repelled on en.wikipedia and in modern scientific publications. Materialscientist (talk) 21:57, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Closing. Thanks all, for your contributions. The category discussion has been closed, descriptions have been added and the category structure has been adjusted. --JopkeB (talk) 11:34, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Andy Mabbett, thank you for informing me.

I was not aware of a current deletion request. The link Yann provided takes me to this statement:

Reproductions may be permitted in a few nations that have freedom of panorama for 2D works, including Croatia, Cuba, Egypt, Germany, Serbia, and the Czech Republic. For all other works, use the {{Non-free graffiti}} tag

I do not have a copy of the file and I am not aware of its content.

Would you kindly provide me with a copy of the file (-> kaialexander @ gmail. com) and explain the reason for the deletion and/or the connection to the reference above.

Thank you for your efforts, KaiKemmann (talk) 16:11, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot; you will need to ask Yann, or some other admin (which I am not). Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:20, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is not a graffiti. It is a picture (which you claimed to be taken by you) of a document with a list of addresses. I don't understand what is the point of this file, nor your request. Can you please explain? Yann (talk) 13:42, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann: This is all very puzzling.
When I first followed the link you provided in your comment ("per COM:NETCOPYVIO)") here it took me to the passage I quoted above.
But I realize now that this likely was a software glitch and it should have taken me to the passage about "Internet images".
Still this does not help me understand why this image was deleted and why the deletion seems to have happened without previous deletion request and discussion.
I believe that this was a photo I took of the billboard placed behind the fence of the construction site of the appendix to the Weimar museum and exhibition space "Haus der Weimarer Republik" (see: [1]) denoting all planners and companies involved in the project. But now I can neither see the image nor the category nor read the description I might have added.
best regards, KaiKemmann (talk) 18:38, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I undeleted it, and created a regular DR instead. Yann (talk) 20:45, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
