Monsters, Inc. is a platforming video game made by Kodiak Interactive for the PlayStation 2. This game is more like the film (location wise) than Monsters, Inc. Scare Island.

Gameplay

Players control James P. "Sulley" Sullivan through 8 levels based on environments from the movie, including the scream factory Monsters Incorporated, the streets of Monstropolis, Sulley's apartment, the Himalayas, and more. In each level, the main goals might include picking up one or more special items or finding the exit. Sulley has to make his way across platforms, ladders, and conveyor belts by jumping, climbing, flipping switches and pushing crates around. To attack enemies, Sulley can use his tail to whip opponents. The game has no lives system, so levels can be attempted an unlimited number of times.

Each level also includes a number of collectibles and special tasks. There are 100 discarded screams to pick up; finding a certain percentage of them unlocks mini-game bonus levels. There are also five scream canisters to find and a small challenge involving scaring five mice within a time limit. If both are completed, clips from the movie are unlocked.

Levels

  1. The Scarefloor (get Thaddeus' manual and keycard.)
  2. The Mailroom (Ride the mail train and get to Boo while avoiding the CDA.)
  3. Main Street (Traverse through the rooftops of Monstropolis while trying to find Boo and avoid the CDA helicopter.)
  4. Sulley's Apartment (Run through Sulley's apartment building and find materials for Boo's costume.)
  5. Garbage Disposal (Chase Boo through the garbage disposal and don't get tricked by the monsters that look like her!)
  6. Himalayas (Go through the Himalayas to get to the village.)
  7. Doorvault (Explore the giant library of all the closet doors and don't fall!)
  8. Showdown (Shut down the power supply by scaring the switches and save Boo from Randall and Mr. Waternoose.)

Mini-games

  1. Tot Bot Scare Fair: Scare as many simulation bots as you can before they wake up!
  2. Canister Catastrophe: Collect the canisters as they are going through the conveyor belt before you lose!
  3. Closet Chaos: Keep the balls from landing in the center and spin them away with your tail. Every time a ball pops, one health point (tooth) is reduced.
  4. Furry Scurry: Play Pac-Man, with a Monsters, Inc. twist! Collect the red scare tokens while the CDA try to catch you! Grab the canisters to get rid of the CDA agents for a short period of time.
  5. Yeti Says: Play a "Simon Says" type of game with the Yeti. Repeat the rhythm he does correctly or lose a point!
