ChatGPT is an Artificial Intelligence software created by the company OpenAI back in 2018. This software has the capabilities to spew out hundreds and thousands of words in mere seconds of any topic and draft up human-like text for use in a variety of applications, such as chatbots, language translation, text summarization, and dialogue generation. ChatGPT has many qualities that make it a potential great tool for students and educators alike, particularly those in the language learning fields.
For instance, this software provides instant feedback to students as they practice in their target language and review different grammatical rules. The software can automatically correct a sentence to fit the grammar rules of the language and give the student a brief description of where they might have gone wrong. Furthermore, ChatGPT can help provided personalized and differentiated instruction, which would allow instructors to have lessons and assignments that target the students’ needs and proficiency levels, and it allows students to evaluate themselves on their own fluency by asking the software to provide with diagnostic assessments and then give a proper evaluation to the student based on their answers.
