File source problem with File:German armed forces badge of marksmanship.gif.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:German armed forces badge of marksmanship.gif.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. B-17 All American - not quite notable enough?

[edit]

Still not convinced that All American is that notable among the many Fortresses that received heavy damage (there is already a section on Fortress as a symbol which notes they often took substantial damage without being brought down) and kept flying (though I see it broke upon landing) is it more notable than eg eg this one or up there besides the Fortresses with their own articles. It could use more in support of its case: was All American used in propaganda, did it headline in newspapers etc?GraemeLeggett (talk) 11:59, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Iraqi MRAP.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mayur (talkEmail) 10:21, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

CIB edits

[edit]

Articseahorse: I've just now reverted your edits on the CIB. Two corrections: 1. when you update the url for your reference, be sure to change the "accessdate" in the citation template. You left the old July date unchanged. By putting the date you actually accessed the date you are telling us you looked at that particular citation. 2. Look at WP:DATESNO on how to present dates. (Also, we do not mix dmy and mdy formats in articles. As this is a military related article, dmy is the better (and accepted) format.) I leave it to you to redo the edit IAW these policies. This will help you WP:LEARN the WP:ROPES.--S. Rich (talk) 03:33, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I re-did the format. Let me know if that will work.

Image size

[edit]

Hell Articseahorse just to let you know I have reverted some of you edits where you have changed the images sizes to a fixed value. We dont normally set the image size and let the user define his/her own size in preferences as per WP:IMGSIZE, thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 11:58, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok my main concern was with pages that had multiple images that they would not line up with their relate section. Also there is the problem of multiple photos causes a problem by invading the article below it. Also having photos of various size right next to each other does not look nice. If there was a set size for all of them it could look more uniformed and professional. Thank you for taking the time to reply to me.
One of the reasons for not fixing the size is that users can define what they want in preferences as not everybody has the same resolution and screen size, what may look bad on your screen may be perfectly allright at a different resolution. MilborneOne (talk) 19:10, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

DubaiTerminator

[edit]

Constructive contributions are appreciated and strongly encouraged, but your recent edit to the userpage of another user may be considered vandalism. Specifically, your edit to User:DubaiTerminator/ub/idiotbush may be offensive or unwelcome. In general, it is considered polite to avoid substantially editing others' userpages without their permission. Instead, please bring the matter to their talk page and let them edit their user page themselves if they agree on a need to do so. Please refer to Wikipedia:User page for more information on User page etiquette. Thank you. Whether or not you like Dubai's user page, you may not make such changes. WP has policies about user names and the behaviors we display towards other users. In this case Dubai could be displaying the medals, etc., for any number of legitimate reasons. Blanking that page was not a legitimate edit. --S. Rich (talk) 14:55, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can have them removed due to lack of proof because of the nature of MOH. Also the alleged date of birth is latter then the ending date for some of the medals so even if this was a real person there would be no way that he could have received them.
No. That userpage is not in the WP:NS0. In this case DubaiTerminator is clearly fantasy/fiction. Unless they are personally offensive (e.g., directed towards another person or editor), have copyright problems, are constructed to look like a real page, etc., we leave such pages alone. For more guidance and policy, see WP:UP.--S. Rich (talk) 16:09, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a "noindex" tag to that userpage. The tag will keep the page out of searchengines. The basic "DubaiTerminator" page will remain indexable. --S. Rich (talk) 16:42, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Just to let you know how I found it was by looking at the image of the German Proficiency badge and seeing who else it was linked to.
Understood. And I see that DubaiTerminator has changed the visability of the no-index tag to "no". Still, it won't show up on search engines and DT can continue to play with it.--S. Rich (talk) 01:13, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes

[edit]

Hey Articseahorse! I saw you had been with some military medals but they seem to be pushing your welcome message off screen. If you want you can copy and paste what I have put below to tidy them up:

Of course you can change what is said at the top of each box, so if you want to you could also categorize the medals in each box, you could also create a box for your regular userboxes like your adoption userbox, if you look on my User page you will see I have quite a few userboxes and I have categorized them. I hope this helps you :) Lunashy Friendship letters.write a friendship letter 01:23, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That would be great if you could do that. I have still learning the code for this site.

I am a member of the medicine Wikiproject and I would like to extend an invitation to join us. Help from a 68W would be very beneficial to my latest edits as I am trying to increase the quality of traumatology articles right now. What do you think? Sounds great! One trick I found for improving the trauma content on Wikipedia is to just browse through Category:Traumatology and Category:Injuries looking for stubs that I find interesting and would love to improve. History of the Iranian Air Force

[edit]

Regarding your recent edit to the article titled History of the Iranian Air Force. You removed the IIAF logo. Can you please explain it, on the article's talk page? --Dreddmoto (talk) 19:44, 21 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I managed to make the edit that I suggested in the "Logo removed" section of the Talk page. What do you think? --Dreddmoto (talk) 11:48, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the photo will work, I made some adjustments to the existing photos. Also I am looking to see if we can find more photos to add to the article from the commons site. Articseahorse (talk) 19:21, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is an unusually large gap in the text of, the section titled "Imperial era".

Also, there are some more photographs to add to the article, like these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:IIAF_Boeing_707_refuels_IIAF_Boeing_747.jpg and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Iranian_F-4E_Phantom_II_armed_with_AGM-65_Maverick.jpg There is not really enough space in the main article itself, to add more. I therefore suggest that a gallery be added at the end of the article, to place new images. Like the gallery in the following article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UH-1N_Twin_Huey Adding a gallery could also be an improvement by allowing one or two of the existing photographs to be moved down and away from the main article, therefore causing less distortion to the arrangement of the text. --Dreddmoto (talk) 11:02, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Where are you seeing this gap, according to my view that this is the area with the least amount of space with four photos. If you can make it work I would say go for it. I was looking at the post revolution sections.

Articseahorse (talk) 15:16, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The gap is between the sentences that start with "The IIAF deployed aircraft to Oman in the 1970s" and "Later, in the 1970s, the IIAF became the only military force other than the United States Navy, to be equipped with the F-14 Tomcat." --Dreddmoto (talk) 14:37, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I do not think we can use that area because the photos are pushed to the left or right. So unless there is a command for it we cannot use the center.

Articseahorse (talk) 19:24, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That need not be an issue, anymore. I have added a gallery to that article and now, one or two of the existing photographs can be moved down and away from the main article, to that gallery. That should help. --Dreddmoto (talk) 12:11, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption userbox

[edit]

Hi Articseahorse. As you've had two offers of adoption, I've removed the userbox from your userpage. Given the number of users starting on the encyclopedia each day and the number who look for adoption, there can often be a backlog when just displaying the request. If you would like a different adopter, You are much more likely to find one if you are pro-active about it, perhaps asking an editor or two from the list of adopters if they would consider adopting you? Good luck in finding someone to help out. WormTT(talk) 09:14, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Avia S-199

[edit]

Hi Articseahorse,

While it looks to me like the image is definitely in the public domain, you need to have at least some concrete indication that it is from that time period. What I recommend doing is to contact the uploader in Flickr and ask for details about the picture—what the source is, where and when it was taken, etc. Cheers, —Ynhockey (Talk) 08:04, 27 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

ICM

[edit]

Artic, I see you reverted ScaryT's edit. Hmmmm. If the ICM is always worn with a star device, what about the images that show just the ribbon? – S. Rich (talk) 03:24, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

THe photo needs to be fix based off of the data from the HRC's website.

The ICM is worn with at least one Service Star to represent a Phase of OIF and not the number of deployments. This is word for word from the Human Resource Command FAQ and for the ICM FAQ. The use of the Service star does not represent the number of deployments.

Does a Soldier have to serve 30 consecutive or 60 nonconsecutive days during a designated campaign to get a BSS/CS?

The BSS/CS are not awarded based on 30 consecutive days or 60 nonconsecutive days. The campaign medal is awarded based on 30 consecutive days or 60 nonconsecutive days, and the BSS/CS is authorized based on one or more days of participation during a designated/named campaign phase. ONLY ONE BSS PER INCLUSIVE PERIOD. A BSS is authorized for each different period the Soldier serves.

If a Soldier deploys numerous times during one particular phase (as do some Special Forces Soldiers), do they qualify for just one BSS/CS or more than one? A BSS is authorized for each campaign in which the Soldier serves. If a Soldier has multiple deployments during the same campaign, he or she would be eligible for only one BSS.

Does a Soldier have at least one Bronze Service Star (BSS) if he/she has an ICM or ACM?

Yes, Soldiers who earn the ICM or ACM will wear at least one BSS.

Articseahorse (talk) 03:24, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You know, I posted a talk page comment on ICM about the layout for the ribbons. The side-by-side layout of ribbons and phases is confusing. The image with just the ribbon, without star, makes it worse. So I'm hoping you or other editors can fix it. (For me, I'm just not in a WP:DIY mood right now.) Best regards. – S. Rich (talk) 03:32, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with that is I do not have a good answer for that. The images are set to be used for personal awards. A idea would be to separate the photos from the phases. Use ribbon with one star a make a mention that a additional star will be added the person has taken part in a second phase.

Articseahorse (talk) 04:07, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to see you removed the various ribbons. But I bet you'll see resistance -- people like to add stars to ribbons, even if un-encyclopedic. Perhaps you can substitute the infobox ribbon with one that has a star. In any event, remember, this is just part of the fun that people have editing Wikipedia! As time passes, you'll see discussions, debates, and wars about what people think is best. – S. Rich (talk) 04:45, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I know, it is things like this that got me editing here. (Someone posted that the Achievement Medal can be awarded with the V device.)

Articseahorse (talk) 04:49, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

-- NBD -- they were thinking of the ARCOM. – S. Rich (talk) 05:05, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not quite sure if this is how you do this but I'll give it a go. My father did a tour in Iraq in '08 and '09 with the United States Navy SEALs. Now, his ribbon has no devices, he only did one tour. You are saying that for one tour someone gets a service star? that is incorrect, you just get the medal, if you do a second tour you get one bronze service star, for three you get two service stars and so on. I am not trying to make you feel bad or badger you, I'm just trying to correct it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ScaryT (talkcontribs) 03:33, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What Regulations are you using to make the claim that one does not receive a Service Star for a single deployment. I have the line for line statement from HRC that states that the Service Star is awarded per phase an not deployment. That a person can get multi stars on a single deployment.

Danny "Frost"

[edit]

Articseahorse, you and I have had some interchange in the past, and all it is greatly appreciated. Indeed, I'm glad that you thought of me WRT Danny. Sadly, Danny's userpage was vandalized a short time ago by an IP and two WP:SPAs. Well, this raises concerns with multiple aspects. One, Danny's page is obviously a fantasy and harmless. (I've added a userpage banner, no-index template, and the links he has will not show up as incoming connected links.) I'll watch it and his contributions (if any). (IOW, I'd just leave it as is.) Two, as a WP editor I cannot let vandalism just sit there. While you, I, and other editors may not like what he's posted, that does not excuse vandalizing the page. So I will act to protect it. Three, both you and ComancheDoc identify yourselves as medics. (I was one too in my EM days.) Adding the fact that IP/SPAs attempted changes to Danny's page makes me wonder. Well, I hope you are familiar with WP:SOCK policies. In particular, one part of the SOCK policies deals with WP:MEAT. Articseahorse, we -- you and I -- are here as WP editors and as such we've gotta comply with WP policies even when we do not like what we see. Thanks so much for considering my thoughts in this regard. – S. Rich (talk) 04:11, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Articseahorse: I see that various SPAs are continuing their attack on Danny's userpage. This is extraordinary in that the page has few followers, is not indexed, and the attacks started up shortly after you sent me some comments. I do hope you are not behind (or support) these attacks. Thanks. – S. Rich (talk) 14:30, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
