Officer Reed Weston has come to expect the unexpected during the graveyard shift in the City of Sin. But this time, it’s Reed’s partner who throws him for a loop, using him as bait to get a drunk Midwesterner safely back to his hotel. Reed goes along with his partner’s plan only because he’s too tired to argue, not because the attractive lawbreaker is easy on his weary eyes.
After waking up hung-over and ashamed of his behavior (the little that he remembers), Grant Carroll wants to make amends. Partying until he literally drops just to forget his no-good ex is not who he is at all. Treating the gruff officer that escorted him home to an apology lunch, Grant soon realizes Reed has everything his ex doesn’t―compassion, intelligence, and gigantic biceps.
Gambling has never been either of their strong suits, but taking a risk on each other may come with the best payoff yet.
Part of "Summer Bigger Than Others - A Summer Anthology" from Beaten Track Publishing.
Hunter lost a bet at a blackjack table and begrudgingly traded temperate Southern California for the sweltering heat of Las Vegas. There she resides with an extremely tolerant husband and two cats named after her favorite beverages, Latte and Java.
When she’s not dreaming of returning to coastal living, Hunter works at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, from where she recently received her Master’s in British history. In order to appease her muse, she writes the kind of fiction that keeps her sane. She adores romance in all forms, but prefers her stories with two heroes that find their happily-ever-afters with each other.
Loved the initial meeting between the police officer, Reed, and the very inebriated Grant! This was a cute story. It's HFN but I wanted it to be a little longer to believe that these guys would have a future together.
-- MY THOUGHTS > Judging a Book by it's Cover: The eyes are automatically drawn to the cuffs and badge, as well as the word Vegas. Slowly, your eyes are drawn upward to a naked male torso on the upper half sort of blending into the shadows, but with just enough accent to define him. The synopsis was interesting and I love a man in uniform, so here's hoping it's a good read! ;) Looking Deeper: Third-person POV novella, originally released as part of the SUMMER BIGGER THAN OTHERS anthology. Reed's a Las Vegas cop, working the night shift. He'd recently quit a relationship in which he was cheated on and been angry and anti-social since. Grant's in Vegas to try to prove to his a-hole ex that he, in fact, is not boring and was worthy of love... not that his ex cares, the jerk's already moved on and is vacationing in Mexico! These two guys are loving and lovable, and deserve to be treated with kindness and caring. Often, in a novella this short, the couple have history to help support the quickie hookup, but this is not the case here. It all happens real fast, but somehow manages to feel real, believable, natural. Maybe it's the whole "trust him, he's a cop" thing that Reed has going on, I don't know, but I did not find myself questioning the speed of progression. The dialogue and interaction throughout also felt right and not forced. There was not a lot of depth and complexity to this little short story, but it flowed quite nicely and was over before I knew it. A few conflicts of minor proportion were introduced and handled expediently, however the biggest concern was the ending... it implies that there is a HEA, but the long-tern logistics are not worked out for the reader to feel secure in their future. Overall, it's a cute, fun, super quick read. I enjoyed it, but wished there'd been just a little more. --------------------------------------------------------------- Heat Level: 4 [R] ~ Score: 4.0 ~ Stars: 4 ---------------------------------------------------------------
This book was really good book I hope there will be others
I really loved reading this book but it was short. I like the main characters Reed and Grant. I loved the comedy in the book it was funny. I hope that wouldn't be last we saw of those characters. I even like the relationship of Reed and his cop partner. I will recommend this to all my friends and other people I know.
Officer Reed Weston is tired, he’s got about an hour left of his graveyard shift and all he wants is to go home to bed! Reed and his partner are waiting in line to get a cold drink when the owner asks them to check on a drunk customer who has fallen asleep leaning against the wall. When they wake up Grant Carroll to make sure he’s okay Grant can’t believe how good-looking policemen are in Vegas! When Grant refuses to go back to his motel Reeds partner decides to use Reed as bait, he saw how Grant reacted to his partner so he tells Grant Reed will give him a kiss if he goes with them back to his motel. Reed wants nothing to do with the idea. It soon becomes apparent he’s going to have to agree just to get Grant moving. Luckily for Reed, Grant is asleep before his head hits the pillow.
When Grant wakes up the next morning he’s absolutely mortified by the way he behaved. When he finds Reeds card with a note to call he decides he may as well get his apology over with. When Reed agrees to let him take him to lunch he can’t believe how badly he acted the night before he had stamps from a lot of nightclubs, thankfully he doesn’t really remember a great deal about what happened! As they’re eating lunch Grant discovers that Reed is also coming to terms with the fact that his ex is nothing more than a cheating asshole and he has everything his ex doesn’t compassion, intelligence and huge biceps! Both Reed and Grant are insanely attracted to each other but Grant is only in Vegas for the weekend. After spending the weekend in bed having the hottest, most satisfying sex they can ever remember they both realize they need to assess whether they’re prepared to take the biggest gamble of their lives and take a risk on each other.
Waking Up in Vegas is a very engaging short story about two heartbroken men who are at different stages of getting over their ex’s. I have no hesitation in recommending this book to all who have a love for m/m romance.

A great short read, instant-attraction under unfortunate circumstances. Thank goodness for sneaky friends who like to push and prod you onto better things.
Reed Weston, LV cop, and three months post-breakup is grumpy and surly. His partner, Silva, only wants the best for his BFF, and finagels the opportunity for him to meet up with a (drunk off his a** after breaking up with his own boyfriend, that they had to escort back to his hotel) city visitor, Grant.
This was one chance that neither man couldn't bet on, the win would more than make up for the loss.
Short and sexy. I LOVE Reed and Grant is a sweetie. The only thing I didn't like about this story is that it is too short and is good enough to be a full length novel. I'd really love to explore Reed and Grant's relationship as it develops and their jerky exes try to win them back. Fun and entertaining.
I loved this short read its the perfect length for a quick read, the characters are likeable and fun with some laugh out loud moments, I especially enjoyed Grant telling off Jason. Not boring at all.
My first time reading this author's books. I loved this one, maybe I'll chance another. A smoking hot Vegas cop and an accountant from Ohio make the perfect couple. Especially when they both had horrible ex's! Fun book to read and hot sexy times!
Though I enjoyed this, I can only give it a 3 star rating because it's a cliffhanger. While yes, it is a hfn ..... sort of, it certainly is not a full story. Two days with these guys isn't enough time. I want more. I want to see them fall in love and get to their happy ending.
