Midnight Sun is set in Iceland, a country I only had the pleasure of seeing as a stopover on an intercontinental flight and desperately want to visit for real, especially after reading this story. The author did a wonderful job of describing the scenery and I thoroughly enjoyed the use of the Icelandic language (a first for me in all my years of reading.) The descriptions and terminology gave the story a depth that I’ve been missing in a lot of my reading lately.
Although present tense is not my preferred POV to read from, I was sucked into the story after only a few pages. Finn and Jamie were dynamic and interesting. And then to add in the bits of supernatural and magical realism… just wow. Wasn’t expecting it and absolutely loved it. The only drawback I felt was some of the dialogue didn’t flow or come off as true to the character’s origin. Jamie is British and his ex is American, but some of their wording didn’t come across that way.
I am definitely looking forward to reading more by this author, because this was extremely well put together for a debut novel. ...more

4.5 stars from me. This is my third book from Mr. Rose and while I loved all of them, this was my least favorite. All those wonderful kinks lined up, which, I have to say, make for one heck of a great "fantasy". I loved the beginning from the whole kidnapping, through the playful banter in bed, and the getting-to-know-you phase. I fell out of love in the last third, because there is a time gap where I really wanted to know what was going on in both men's lives, but was left hanging with nothing, until BAM! back together for a sweet HEA.
Still you can't fault the wonderful writing style and the creativeness of the scenerios Mr. Rose subjects his characters to. He had me at the opening Dedication and kept me entertained right through to the end....more

Overall this was a good short story, although predictable. Essentially erotica with a tiny bit of plot. The BDSM scene was written well enough that even though I'm not in the scene there wasn't anything blatantly wrong, but I think the detail could have been even better. I can't say I've ever heard of bathtubs in rooms, but again I don’t know this stuff intimately.
Short stories of this length are sometimes hard to evaluate. So I made some basic questions up: Did the story draw me in: Yes. Did the story keep me attention: Yes. Did the storyline stay true and not verve off on a tangent: Yes. Best part: the twist (even if I could see it coming a mile away). Worst part: the grammar. Way too many errors of wrong tenses and commas in all the wrong places. Would I read more by this author: Yes.
So I’d say for the quick read, it’s worth it. But this could have been longer, and I’d probably love it more. ...more

4.5 stars There's something to be said for reading a review and then forgetting everything you'd read. All I had remembered was that the two main characters were brought together following a tragedy, so imagine my surprise when the lovely BDSM contemoorary suddenly becomes about magic, witches and covens, elves and the inevitable bad guy.
Yup. My head was spinning and definitely in a good way. I enjoyed both main characters even though 95 percent of the story was from Steven's point of view. Nick was fabulous as the Georgian (Soviet) dom. I loved the way he snuck little words in and sometimes reverted to Russian. Steven adapted amazingly well to all that was thrown his way, from a cruel ex to blindness to magic to warrior. Maybe too amazing, but what the hey? It's fiction and I loved it. ...more

Well... this was pretty good. I'm not going to say great or spectacular, but overall I liked it. Derek wants to give his lover a weekend to remember. To allow Tyler the time to embrace his submissive side, to allow him to achieve what he hadn't yet... subspace.
Behind every lovingly paddled and flogged submissive there was a hardworking Dom.
There were scenes I liked, and those I didn't. Downtime was included as were rewards and punishments. Ultimately, I think what held me back from loving this was the sheer number of "scenes" be they sexual or not. I haven't ever found enjoyment in stories where working a sub over to this extent titillated me. Yet, I knew somewhat what I was getting myself into reading this, so I only blame myself.
Some other things bothered me including the lack of inflection of obvious non- Americans. Rugby players so maybe England or Australia? Also there were some eye catching errors that a proofreader should have caught. I'm always good for one or two, but when I hit 3 or more I get a bit testy.
I'm certain others will find this story more to their liking, it was just a bit much for me. ...more

Reviewer Rant: Book one is available for free via Amazon, and I'd actually picked it up and read it (without reviewing) prior to being provided mobi and pdf versions for review. Imagine my surprise when the copies I'm given are ridiculously edited. The lack of punctuation at the end of dialogue was the greatest offense, followed by odd capitalization and oftentimes the wrong word used. This is not what I read originally, and it made me angry and frustrated from the outset, which is really too bad because I would have given this series a much higher mark, but I won't gift the author for providing me inferior copies. I am not expecting beta copies when I review for this particular program, I am expecting publishable copies.
Book 1: As You Wish (view spoiler)[4 stars - If you are a friend of the movie “The Princess Bride” then you'll love this book. Of the three stories I read in this series, only this one can hold as a standalone. Also this one was definitely the funniest one of the bunch. The playful banter and scenes based on the movie were downright hilarious. The descriptions of the landscape of the UK was breathtaking, and I was in absolute love with Declan’s Scottish brogue which came through loud and clear whenever he spoke or thought.
A straight to gay romance, Declan has been unsuccessful in his quest for love with women. Over the last year, he's been emailing Sam, the joint best man at the wedding of their siblings. Their initial meeting starts off rocky, but they soon reconcile and then bond over “The Princess Bride”, a movie they both love. The friendship morphs to intimacy rather quickly, but worries over Sam's homophobic father dampen their ardor. Sam is forced to leave, leaving Declan to await his return, which he does in spectacular fashion. The sex is hot and wild, with light BDSM and D/s interactions. (hide spoiler)]
Book 2: Illuminate the Shadows (view spoiler)[3 stars The storyline moves away from the budding romance to delve into the spy profession. Declan is “kidnapped” and forced to undergo various tortures in order to get him to spill his secrets. Sir James Aiken, Sam’s father, believes Declan to be some awesome international spy, but Declan proves to be stronger than he looks. Once Declan returns home, he and Sam begin their new lives together as partners at home and at “work.”
Still great sex scenes, although more of them sort of cut off in the middle, which was okay as this was more of a moving the story forward versus a romantic bit. One lagging point was Declan's brother's refusal to accept Declan is now gay. This bit of storyline is never resolved. (hide spoiler)]
Book 3: Return to Zero 3 stars - Books must be read in order. This is NOT a standalone.
Sir James finally assigns Sam and Declan to a mission. They journey overland to a camp where they meet other technology bigwigs and learn of a Ponzi scene. But overlaid all that is a man out to destroy Sam. He nearly does, but --hey!-- loves conquers all, right? Beautiful descriptions of the Scottish highlands and landmarks, and I enjoyed to mystery and chase. Sweet HEA ending, but the story isn’t quite over. Main MCS were Darren, the stylist who assisted Peter in his rebirth, and JJ who'd come to Collars and Cuffs to refute the BDSM lifestyle, only to fall for both the friends he made and the D/s interactions.
