Holly Short is one of the two deuteragonists, alongside Domovoi Butler, of the Artemis Fowl series. She starts out as a captain of LEPRecon (A "Leprechaun") and becomes a commodore.
Holly was sent to deal with a rogue troll. She managed to save the humans, but ran out of magic much to Julius Root's displeasure. When she went to replenish her magic, she was captured by Artemis Fowl and Butler. While imprisoned, she used the acorn she saved to get her magic back. She used the mesemr on Juliet Butler to escape, tricking her into thinking she was watching wrestling on a TV. There, she encountered the troll she had fought earlier, and was defeated, shortly after Butler was mauled and defeated. She used her magic to heal Butler, who defeated the troll. Holly made a deal to heal Artemis' mother in exchange for half her ransom. After the biobomb was set off, she went back in but realized Artemis had escaped from the time field.
The Arctic Incident[]
Holly had been with Chix Verbal on a stake out, to which Chix got shot and ended up saving him from dying. Holly discovered that goblins were trading with humans illegally and were gathering weapons. She arrested Artemis and Butler, thinking they were responsible. The fairies made a deal with the humans to find the human dealing with the goblins, in exchange for rescuing Artemis Sr. After Butler discovered the human responsible, the group went to Russia where they were ambushed by goblins. Butler and Root were trapped under several tons of ice, which were caused by the goblins shooting at it. Holly found the Mayak Chemical Train, also known as the Green Machine, and she and Artemis used the force of the train to rescue Julius and Butler. When they entered the train, Holly ended up loosing her finger, which was healed when Artemis restored her magic with the help of an acorn around her neck. The group found and recruited Mulch and broke into Koboi Labs. They confronted and arrested Opal Koboi and Briar Cudgeon was killed. Holly then helped Artemis rescue his father and gave Artemis a coin she shot with her Nutrino to remind him of the spark of decency in him.
The Eternity Code[]
Holly and Grub Kelp were escorting goblins who were still present after the goblin revolution. She was summoned back to the LEP after this to deal with the problem of Artemis "pinging" the fairies accidentally after he had been in the business meeting with Jon Spiro. After Artemis used the C-Cube to accidentally ping the fairies as mentioned before, Holly was sent to investigate and found that Artemis was responsible. She found Butler had been shot and healed him at Artemis' request, but he lost some of his life force in exchange. Holly and the group then planned a heist to defeat Spiro and take back the C-Cube. Afterwards, she helped Butler make Arno Blunt confess to shooting him and to mind-wipe Artemis, Butler, and Juliet.
The Opal Deception[]
Holly and Root were tricked by Opal, so Root was murdered and Holly was framed for his murder. Holly ran and tried to save Artemis, but supposedly failed when the biobomb Opal had sent detonated in Artemis' hotel room. Opal then sent a biobomb to float near Holly before talking to her and then detonating it, which she survived by putting her helmet over it and flying away from the selenium flare. She found Artemis had survived and talked to talked to him about his forgotten past, to which he didn't remember and theorized he had left something behind to make him remember to which he didn't know what he could have left behind. The duo were captured by Opal who left them to be killed by trolls in an abandoned theme park. They were rescued by Butler and Mulch, who had stolen a shuttle earlier and used it to follow Opal. Artemis regained his memories with the help of his computer disk and came up with a plan to stop Opal. The group then defeated Koboi by tricking her into blowing up her own ship, but ended up having to escape 2 heat-seeking plasma rockets fired by Opal as revenge that were locked onto their engines. They succeeded, but accidentally had it seem like they had fired on Trouble Kelp. Ark Sool ordered him to fire on them but he refused and allowed Holly to explain her story and be rescued. Holly reunited with Foaly and the rest of the LEP and had her name cleared. Holly ended up quitting the LEP because of how she was mistreated, especially by Ark Sool. Holly teamed up with Mulch as PI's and had their first case, which she called Artemis to help her after he had been tranquilized by Ark Sool and sent back home.
The Lost Colony[]
Holly and Mulch were working together as PI's when they were recruited to track demons. Holly met up with Artemis in time to witness a demon, N°1, get captured by Minerva Paradizo and her associate, Billy Kong. Holly and Artemis followed Minerva. Holly let herself be captured so she could rescue N°1. The group then worked together to rescue Minerva from Kong. Kong brought a bomb to try to annihilate the demons and Holly, Artemis, Qwan, and N°1 went to Hyrbras to rescue the demons. Holly was killed but Artemis reversed time to save her. She then helped use the power of the bomb to bring Hybras back to earth, three years in the future.
The Time Paradox[]
Holly was off surveying krackens when she was asked to heal Artemis' mother who had supposedly had Spelltropy, but was later shown to be Opal using an extreme form of Mesmer to imitate Spelltropy in Angeline Fowl. Artemis reluctantly tricked her into thinking she caused it in order to guilt her into helping him. The two went back in time to rescue a lemur, which contained the cure, from past Artemis and Butler. Artemis and Holly were captured but they recruited Mulch by late sending a note back from the future to a lock box he visited, to which he read, found their location, and helped them escape. Holly managed to rescue the lemur, but it was recaptured by past Artemis and Butler. Artemis confessed that he lied to Holly, but she forgave him after he helped her speak to Root one last time. The group tried to rescue the lemur but Holly was captured and sold to Damon Kronski. Artemis helped her escape. Artemis discovered that Opal was behind everything and the group when back to the present where they defeated Koboi.
The Atlantis Complex[]
Holly was in Iceland with Artemis when she realized Artemis was suffering from Atlantis Complex. The group was attacked by Foaly's Mars Probe controlled by Turnball Root. Holly was forced to shoot Artemis, which turned him into an alternate personality called Orion, who confessed his love for her, to her annoyance. Holly managed to get a shuttle and escape the area with Artemis and Foaly, and contacted the LEP about a threat to Atlantis. The group were captured by Turnball Root and Holly was possessed by Root, but Orion defeated Root.
The Last Guardian[]
Holly was visiting the clone of Opal Koboi when she was called due to Opal kidnapping her past self. Opal then killed her past self, causing most of the world's technology to be destroyed. Holly helped the group escape Haven and fly to Fowl Manor. There, the group battled against the resurrected fairies that Opal recruited into her army. Holly planned to confront Opal alone but Artemis sedated her and went off on his own. After Artemis went to Opal and replaced Holly with Opal's clone, and had Opal's clone close the gate, Opal and Artemis were killed. Months later Foaly cloned his body and returned his soul to him with Holly and Butler's help.
Fowl Twins[]
Holly became a commodore and trained Lazuli Heights. When confronting the Fowl Twins, she decided not to mindwipe them after Artemis sent a video defending them. A lot later, after Myles stops Gveld Horteknut she says Myles and Beckett have broken their deal, to which Myles threatens to expose the fairies if they were mind wiped, as he found the deal unfair and ultimately decided not to mindwipe them after seeing that they could both be an ace in the hole to the LEP.
