Ratbag, also known as Ratbag the Coward, is a supporting character of the 2014 action-adventure fantasy video game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and its 2017 sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War, specifically being the deuteragonist of Brûz's storyline.
He is a Uruk who formerly served as a member of Sauron's army, and is one of Talion's major allies. While Ratbag is a cowardly and ambitious Uruk, he also proves himself to be a loyal companion to Talion, always willing to help him out, even for his own benefits.
Although supposedly killed by the Hammer of Sauron, he was later revealed to have survived and is accompany by a Olog name Az-Harto, whom Ratbag nicknames as "Ranger" in honor of Talion. He would later aid Talion in his fight against Brûz The Chopper.
He is voiced by Phil LaMarr.
History[]
Ratbag is an outcast among other Uruk's he mentions that other Uruk-Hai pick on him or laugh at him like tossing him into a Caragor pit or tying him up leaving him to die. Because he has always been made fun of by the other Uruk's Ratbag craves power so he can finally be in charge and boss around the other Uruk-Hai picked on him.
Talion first meets Ratbag as he is tied up Ratbag convinces the ranger to free him and promises to help Talion on his mission. Ratbag agrees help Talion take out one of the warchief's for purposes as Ratbag helps out Talion the ranger has to help out Ratbag by freeing him a few times. Even though Ratbag needs rescuing a few times he proves to be quite useful and helpful to Talion. After taking out of the warchiefs the Hammer confronts him about being the only warchief left and how the other conventienly died in battle and how Ratbag is the only alive after that the Hammer seemly kills Ratbag.
Years later after seemingly being killed by the Hammer Talion is surprised that Ratbag is still alive. It is reviled that Ratbag has become an overlord along with a troll he named Ranger. Ratbag agrees to letting Talion take over the fort the he Ranger were in charge of. After Talion takes charge Ratbag once again starts aiding the ranger with his quest. Later after Bruz betrays Talion Ratbag does his best to help Talion reclaim his fort after reclaiming the fort Bruz kidnaps the Olog Ranger. Talion and Ratbag work together to rescue the Olog several missions later Talion and Ratbag rescue Ranger and Talion brakes Bruz's will.
After rescuing Ranger and breaking Bruz Ratbag and the Olog Ranger leave Talion to finish his quest alone. In both games Ratbag is shown to have no loyalty to Sauron or any of the other Uruks and he is also the only Orc to not have his will taken control by Talion.
