This article is about the item in Super Mario Bros. 2. For Cherries in a more general context, see Cherry (object).

A Cherry is an item featured in Super Mario Bros. 2 and its reissues Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario Advance.

In Super Mario Bros. 2[]

Cherries are spread throughout the levels, and collecting five of them causes a Starman to float onscreen, starting from below. Collecting a Cherry in Subspace does not cause the Cherry to disappear in the regular realm, although it does not appear in Subspace if collected vice versa.

Cherries are one of the slots featured in Bonus Chance. Unlike the other slots, lining up even one Cherry earns the player a reward, with one Cherry rewarding an extra life, two Cherries rewarding two extra lives, and three Cherries rewarding five extra lives, later changed to three in the Super Mario All-Stars remake and Super Mario Advance.

In Super Mario Advance, a character says "Lucky!" whenever they collect a Cherry, and collecting the fifth one plays a sound effect to more clearly indicate the Starman appearing.
