History

Lester was known as "The Bookie" and arranged bets on battles between superhumans. At some point he married a woman named Grace and the couple had a son John who eventually inherited his name and his trade.[1] Lester, however, believed that his son was not good at his job and when he realized that he was trying to fix a bet he tried to persuade him not to do so given the risks.[1] Because of the rigged bet, the Enforcers kidnapped John and when Spider-Man went to his house to look for him for information, Lester revealed to him what had happened and, saying he knew where his son was, convinced him to go save him and take him with him.[2]

In reality, Lester had organized a round of betting on what had happened and when the Ox said he didn't want to fight anymore since Spidey had saved him from the fall of some carriages, he let it slip which made any desire to fight disappear completely.[2] Spider-Man then forced him to donate all the money he earned from the bets to F.E.A.S.T.[2]
