Synopsis for "The Origin of Captain America!"

Reprint of the 2nd story from
Tales of Suspense #63

This story is a retelling of Captain America's origins. In the 1940's young Steve Rogers who was rejected from joining the military because of his frail body. However he is chosen for a top secret project to create the perfect soldier. Given a formula by Dr. Erskine his body is transformed into one of peak efficiency. After Steve Rogers is transformed however, Erskine is killed by a Nazi spy, who in turn is killed by Rogers. Erskine's secret formula would die with him, however Steve Rogers would become Captain America.

The tale would gloss over how Captain America would bust up Nazi spy rings as Captain America, but in his civilian guise he'd pretend to be a bumbling soldier under the command of Sergeant Duffy, and the mentor for his units mascot Bucky Barnes.

Bucky would one night stumble upon Steve changing into Captain America and would convince him to join him in combat as his sidekick, Bucky. Their first mission together would be to break up some Nazi's sneaking into the country and using their own explosives to destroy the submarine they arrived in.

Tales to Astonish #70

This story follows the events of Daredevil #7...

Namor is on his way back to Atlantis when he is stopped by Lady Dorma, who warns Namor that in his absence, Warlord Krang has seized the throne of Atlantis. When Dorma tries to touch Namor he tells her to unhand him, angering her. Upset at being rejected by Namor again, she calls the guards, who easily overpower and capture Namor. She accompanies the captured Namor in the hopes that upon seeing Krang on his throne, he will give up his royal status and finally marry her.

Krang gloats at Namor's loss of power and orders the fallen prince to be locked in the dungeons. Consumed with guilt, Dorma comes to Namor's side and he convinces her to let him free. He hopes to seek out Neptune's Trident so that he may rightfully regain the throne of Atlantis. He recounts how long ago, when Neptune used to rule over Atlantis, he hid the trident someplace under the sea. In the event someone attempted to usurp the Atlantean throne, one who is truly worthy might reclaim it by finding the trident. Dorma steals the Vibra-Key needed to free Namor from his cell and Namor begins his quest, seeking out the clues that will lead him to the trident.

Sneaking out of Atlantis, Namor swims off into the sea. Dorma watches on and is suddenly intruded upon by Krang. Krang gloats that this is exactly what he had plotted all along, hoping that Namor would be destroyed trying to find Neptune's trident.

This becomes apparent as Namor heads to the location of the first clue, which is defended by a giant killer squid. Spotting a shell that has Neptune's mark on it, Namor attempts to battle the squid. Slipping past the monster he grabs the shell, but he doesn't get away fast enough and the squid is approaching too close for comfort.

Synopsis for "The Mark of the Metazoid"

Reprint of the 1st story from
Captain Marvel #5

Aboard the Kree vessel over the Earth, Mar-Vell is put on trial by Yon-Rogg for being "Un-Kree" by allowing the Sub-Mariner to win a battle and prevent the people of Earth from being infected with bacteria (as seen last issue). However, after much consideration, Ronan decides to judge Mar-Vell based on his future actions in being able to carry out his mission. He orders Mar-Vell to kill Mr. Logan the one man who may hint at Mar-Vell's identity. Mar-Vell gets out of killing Logan by suggesting that killing Logan would attract unwanted attention and erasing his memory would be better. Ronan agrees and allows Mar-Vell to see things his own way.

Back on Earth, Communist agents are plotting to capture Walter Lawson by sending their latest super-powered agent the Metazoid -- a being mutated to have the metabolism of 50 men -- to capture Lawson. Meanwhile, Mar-Vell returns to Earth and assumes his identity as Lawson. Returning to the Cape he deflects the suspicions of Carol Danvers about "Lawson's" activities. Traveling to the hospital where Logan is recovering, Mar-Vell is attacked by the Metazoid before he can erase Logan's memories. Changing into his Kree armor, Mar-Vell battles, but tries to avoid killing the creature.

However, when physical might, and his Uni-Beam prove useless against the Metazoid, Mar-Vell is forced to expose the Metazoid to an x-ray machine which proves to be lethal to the Metazoid. After the death of his attacker, Mar-Vell succeeds in using the memory eraser on Logan, and quickly flees when doctors stumble in upon Mar-Vell when he's completed his job.
