Synopsis for "Quest for Cats!"

The cat side of Tigra is taking over! The only way the West Coast Avengers can save her is to journey to the dimension of the Cat People! But will they be greeted as welcomed guests...or attacked as hated invaders?

Notes

  • Although not named in this story, the profile on the Cat People in Avengers: Roll Call #1 confirms that the king of the Cat People in the Land Within is still King Gerark who first appeared in Fear #22.
    • That profile also revealed that the real names of the first Tigra and the Balkatar with whom she mated to begin the second race of Cat People were, respectively, Florence and Tegnar. However, those names have not yet been mentioned in any published story.
  • This story is the first to reveal the origin of the second race of Cat People and exactly how they were related to the original Cat People.
  • Ebrok's fellow sorcerers had appeared in the origins of the Cat People that were presented in Fear #22 and What If? #35, but this story contains the first and only in-story mention of them being part of an organization known as the Sorcerers' Guild.
    • Orann appears in the recap of how he murdered Ebrok but his name, which was established in that What If? story, is not mentioned.
  • The Land Within was established as being an extradimensional world in the Appendix entry for the Cat People in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe #3 but would not be revealed to be a "demon-realm" that was one of the "caverns of Hades" until West Coast Avengers (Vol. 2) #15. The entry for the Cat People in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Update '89 #1 explicitly states that this "Hades" is an interconnected series of netherworld pocket dimensions that should not be confused with the Olympian underworld of the same name which was ruled by the god Pluto.
  • In this issue, the modern-day Tigra refers to her old friend Dr. Tumolo as "Marie" in dialogue three times. In order to correct this error, Tigra's entry in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe (Vol. 2) #13 established that Dr. Joanne Tumolo's full name was Dr. Joanne Marie Tumolo.
