"Come on. I never totally fit in with the gang, anyway."
The subject of this article is part of an MCU franchise story that has been officially deemed to be non-canonical to the primary continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Its events instead occur in another reality within the Multiverse. This universe is designated as "Ultimo Transformation".

Do it!"
Tony Stark and Nick Fury[src]

The Attack on the Tesla Facility was a joint effort by S.H.I.E.L.D. and Tony Stark to attack the insurrectionists working under General Valentin Shatalov.

Background[]

"Remember, this region has been completely overrun by Valentin Shatalov|Shatalov's insurrectionists, so consider everyone in these canyons an enemy."
Tony Stark[src]

Valentin Shatalov declared himself to be the President of Russia and began an insurrection. In the process, he formed an alliance with A.I.M. and Roxxon Energy Corporation, the latter being hired to steal the Dataspine while his insurrectionists took control of Russia's Tesla energy program. Tony Stark and James Rhodes attempted to stop Roxxon, but ultimately failed as Roxxon managed to steal ninety-eight percent of the code. Stark, Rhodes, and Pepper Potts concluded that Shatalov was likely responsible, so they flew to Russia and contacted Nick Fury, who explained that S.H.I.E.L.D. had been dispatched to investigate new technology being used by Shatalov's forces. Fury cleared Stark, Rhodes, and Potts to join S.H.I.E.L.D. in their mission.[1]

Attack[]

As Tony Stark flew toward the base, he sent information to S.H.I.E.L.D. regarding the defenses of the upcoming canyon and reminded the vanguard to consider everyone in the canyons an enemy. Nick Fury then contacted and explained that the Helicarrier had initiated its attack from the other side and that Stark was simply meant to escort the vanguard to the attack without fighting. However, Stark noticed cloaked weapons and informed Fury and James Rhodes. Stark and the helicopters were attacked and took heavy fire and managed to destroy their attackers.

J.A.R.V.I.S. and Rhodes warned of a Roxxon Armiger attacking, so Stark ordered the helicopters to slow down and let him attack first. However, one pilot insisted on providing covering fire, leading the Armiger to destroy it, killing the pilot. Fury ordered the remaining pilots to let Stark handle it, and they listened as Stark destroyed the Armiger on his own. Stark and the helicopter then resumed moving through the canyon, destroying their attackers until they reached a tunnel and destroyed its defenses, entering the tunnel.

On the other side of the tunnel, Stark and the helicopter joined the Helicarrier's attack, and J.A.R.V.I.S. advised Stark to infiltrate the facility's command building and get the access codes to the insurrectionists' ship's command bridge. He entered the code and destroyed the Armiger that was deployed as a result before entering the ship. Stark destroyed the attacking robots and the ship's shield generators, and J.A.R.V.I.S. activated the ship's evacuation protocols, allowing Stark to leave. As Stark left, the ship started to get destroyed, and Stark told Fury to destroy it. They blew up the ship and Stark escaped, only to learn that Shatalov was not there.[1]

Aftermath[]

"Not only do you have a spy in your midst, but your eagerness to engage in battle has brought S.H.I.E.L.D. to your doorstep!"
Kearson DeWitt to Valentin Shatalov[src]

Tony Stark and James Rhodes realized that the Roxxon Armigers used were being remotely powered, so they used S.H.I.E.L.D. satellites to find a power plant in Siberia by tracking their power source. The unwanted attention from the attack angered Kearson DeWitt, who angrily called Valentin Shatalov and scolded him about the attention from S.H.I.E.L.D. and allowing a spy, Natasha Romanoff, to enter his ranks. Romanoff was forced on the run as Stark destroyed the power plant and rescued Romanoff. Using information Romanoff had gathered, Stark and Rhodes went with Romanoff to an A.I.M. facility running Project P.R.O.T.E.A.N., where DeWitt had transformed himself into Ultimo.[1]
