"People always ask me how can we charge so much for what amounts to gradations of white. I tell them it's not about the artist's name or the skill required, not even about the art itself. All that matters is 'How does it make you feel?'"

Rabbit in a Snowstorm is the third episode of the first season of the television series Daredevil.

Synopsis[]

Murdock and Foggy take on a mysterious wealthy client, but Murdock is convinced that there's more to the case than just the facts.

Plot[]

John-Healy-surrenders

John Healy goes to Whitestone Lanes and he asks if he can play some bowling but the place is closing, while Prohaszka is allowed to play all he wants. Healy goes to talk with Prohaszka, asking if he can play as well but Prohaszka orders his men to get Healy out of his sight. Healy quickly subdues them and confronts Prohaszka with a gun he bought from Turk Barrett, and although Barrett swore that it would not jam, it did anyway. Prohaszka beats Healy, knowing well who sent him, but Healy gains an upper hand and kills Prohaszka by smashing his face with a bowling ball. While the New York City Police Department arrives, Healy hides the gun and surrenders, requesting a lawyer.

Wesley-meets-Foggy-Nelson-Matt-Murdock

Matt Murdock sits in front of the Clinton Church where he gets approached by Paul Lantom who offers him to talk over a latte but Murdock leaves for the work. At the office, Karen Page receives a letter from Kirschner and Brown but immediately hides it when Foggy Nelson walks in. Once Murdock arrives, they notice a bruise on his face and get worried but Murdock brushes it off. James Wesley visits the office and makes a partnership proposition to Nelson and Murdock. Murdock is suspicious about Wesley, as he never gave them his name, preferred a small law firm to a larger one and was aware about Page's situation.

Murdock & Nelson

Wesley offers him to review one of their cases and tells them to go to the 15th Precinct Police Station before leaving. Nelson goes to the precinct and speaks with Healy who claims that he only came to play bowling and killed Prohaszka in self-defense. Nelson is concerned about Healy and considers to drop the case but Murdock joins in and says that they will represent him in court. Murdock asks about the man who asked them to represent Healy but he does not say anything, making it clear that he is not afraid they might lose the case. Healy shows himself being very knowledgeble about the legal procedure and says that he will be indicted and the case will go straight to the court.

Ben-Urich-speaks-to-Silvo

Ben Urich meets with Silvio, discussing Don Rigoletto's death and recent attacks on the Russian Mafia. Urich promises him a ticket to Florida for any information but despite being grateful for the past, Manfredi only warns Urich to stay out of it. Regardless, Urich understands that there is a new player in the city's criminal underworld and intends to write an article about it. Back at New York Bulletin, Mitchell Ellison tells Urich that he should stop digging into this, since it does not help the paper's sales but Urich is determined to find the truth. Urich insists but Ellison does not budge, but promises to help him out with his insurance problem.

Karen-Page-Offered-Money-Office

Page meets with the Kirschner and Brown lawyer that represents the Union Allied Construction and offers her to sign a non-disclosure agreement regarding the recent Union Allied scandal. The lawyer says that she provided New York Bulletin with confidential information, so if Page signs the contract, Union Allied will not take a legal action against her and also will pay compensation. Page feels insulted that the company tries to silence her after she almost got killed, but the lawyer insists, saying that she has a chance put everything behind her and start anew.

Wesley goes to Whitestone Lanes to pick up Healy's gun from the arcade machine, but has to wait while others are done playing.

Urich meets with Shirley Benson at Metro-General Hospital, asking for her help with an insurance extension appeal for his wife Doris. Benson says her help will not do much, since the appeal process is too complicated but Urich cannot give up, otherwise his wife might be taken off the hospital care. Benson eventually caves in and signs a letter that gives Urich additional five days to resolve his situation, while she tries to work on his appeal. Urich is still concerned, however, and goes to visit Doris at her room, while she is still sleeping.

John Healy at the court room with Nelson & Murrdock

While Murdock and Nelson prepare for the court, Page looks into Confederated Global Investments but fails to find any solid information about the man who hired them. On the first day of the session, Nelson gives an opening statement, while Murdock notices that one of the jury's heartbeat gets faster when Wesley enters the courthouse. The man in the mask follows her and finds out that she is being blackmailed by Oscar, so he beats him and tells him to get her out of the jury. The masked man demands Oscar to give his employer's name but Oscar knows nothing and they will kill him for failing his task. The second day, Murdock gives a closing statement, claiming that while Healy did kill Prohaszka, the prosecution cannot prove that it was not a self-defense.

D103 1778

Wesley meets with Leland Owlsley, who wanted a meeting with his employer but he was preoccupied with art. Owlsley is frustrated that Healy's case could get jeopardized, since they lost a blackmail material on the jury, but Welsey says everything is under control. Owlsley then suggests just getting rid of Healy, however, Wesley replies that the body trail they left is too big and might eventually lead to them, so they have to act with caution. Wesley tells him that Healy must be dealt with within the law, so he got a recently opened law firm with a clean record to represent him, which will work in their favor. Owlsley is concerned since he cannot work on Prohaszka's holdings while the situation is attracting attention, but Wesley's employer claims he will handle it.

Karen-Page-meets-Ben-Urich

Page meets with Jennifer Fisher, the wife of Daniel Fisher, but she refuses to talk to Page after what happened to her husband. Page guesses if Union Allied offered Fisher money just like they did to her and says that she cannot let them get away with killing Daniel and trying to kill her for trying to expose their crimes. Fisher only tells Page to let it go, saying that she already signed the papers, since she still has children to care about. Page does not feel that letting go is right, but Fisher replies that if Page has someone she cares about, she must. Page, however, meets with Urich and tells him that the Union Allied story has more to it, which interests him.

Daredevil-John-Healy-Questions

At the court, the jury fails to reach a verdict, while Murdock realizes that another juror is being blackmailed. Nelson worries that prosecution might move with a retrial, but Murdock says that they will not, realizing that Healy already knew that it would happen. As Healy walks free, he gets attacked by the masked man and after a fight, he forces Healy to give a name of his employer and he eventually gives him a name: Wilson Fisk. The man in the mask tells Healy to leave the city but Healy replies that since he spoke, Fisk's men will kill him and everyone close to him, so he commits a suicide, leaving the vigilante in shock.

Wilson-Fisk-meets-Vanessa

At the Scene Contempo Gallery, Vanessa Marianna approaches a client who took an interest in Rabbit in a Snowstorm. Marianna talks to him about the painting, saying that despite it being just graduations of white, the painting's value is in what it make the viewer feel. Wilson Fisk tells Marianna that the painting makes him feel alone.
