"It Came From Outer Space" was a title suggested for an Incredible Tales story by Kay Eaton in 1953. Julius Eaton found the title "smashing" and wished he'd come up with it. (DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars")
A movie with that exact name in reality came out a few months before the setting of the episode.
