Josh Baldwin is the White Blaster Beetleborg. A late addition to the team, he was brought in to aid the Beetleborgs after the creation of Shadowborg.

Biography[]

Josh is granted the ability of invisibility by Flabber, which he activated by dusting his hands. He was on the team for a very short period of time. The White Blaster Beetleborg was created after Shadowborg, an evil clone of the Beetleborgs, stole their Beetleborg powers. His Beetleborg form was drawn up by Arthur Fortunes. Although he succeeded in getting their powers back, he quickly felt overwhelmed by his new role and attempted to abandon them, only to return not long afterwards.

Unfortunately, it was soon discovered that the White Blaster and Shadowborg were linked in a fashion of yin and yang (mainly because the White Blaster powers were created solely to battle Shadowborg), meaning if one was destroyed, the other would lose his power forever (it could be assumed that it didn't really bother him, seeing as he felt he couldn't handle a superhero life). Josh and Drew were rivals in the fall for Heather. Josh accompanied the Beetleborgs in the final battle against Shadowborg, where he transformed for the final time. Shadowborg was defeated by Drew (in his Mega Blue Beetleborg form), and due to the link, Josh lost his powers, at which point, Josh returned to a normal life. Arthur Fortunes soon announced his plans to add the White Blaster Beetleborg to his comics alongside Blue Stinger Beetleborg's Mega Borg form.

Josh's armor was modeled after a hercules beetle, and had a significantly more streamlined design than the original Beetleborgs. He had the ability to project a fireball "Blast" for an attack, called the "Borg Beam".

Personality[]

As the new kid in town, Josh was confident and somewhat cocky, which often put him at odds with Drew in their civilian lives. He had a tendency to exaggerate his actual ability, but was quick to admit his inadequacy whenever the situation became too intense. Though he agreed to help the Beetleborgs recover their powers, his loss against Shadowborg in their first fight quickly soured his confidence, leaving him trying to pass off the White Blaster Beetleborg powers to someone else. Despite this, Josh's better nature refused to let him leave his friends at Shadowborg's mercy, and he quickly returned to reclaim his powers to help not long afterwards. Although he was saddened to learn he would ultimately lose his powers for good after Shadowborg's defeat, he accepted the inevitability and did his best to help end the menace once and for all.

Notes[]

  • None of the Japanese Footage Of White Blaster was used, one of the reasons being the last 2 episodes of Juukou B-Fighter showing the unadapted Blue Swat. Another reason being the White Blaster Borg's Japanese counterpart used a normal revolver as a weapon.
  • Although Josh possessed a personal superpower like the other three Beetleborgs, he was never shown actually discovering his power of invisibility, showing aptitude with it the first time it was seen on the show.
  • It was slightly hinted that Jo had a crush on Josh.
  • As the White Blaster Beetleborg, Josh was the only Beetleborg without any weapons of his own, lacking any sidearms such as a Sonic Laser, Pulse Saber, or any other primary weapon.
    • Bandai released a 6 inch figure of the White Blaster Beetleborg featuring the Thunder Stinger molded onto its right arm as a weapon, despite the White Blaster Beetlebog never using this weapon.
  • Josh featured his own Beetle Bonder, which featured one of the two horns normally seen on Jo's Bonder centered to resemble his helmet's beetle horn. No toy version of Josh's Beetle Bonder was ever made.
  • During Josh's short tenure on the team, any group transformation sequences featuring all four Beetleborgs featured the sequential individual transformations rather than the group transformation typically used by the primary three. Josh's transformation sequence was only shown twice during his time on the show.
  • He and Roland are the only members of their team not to be related to any of their teammates. He is also the only member not to have any known relatives.
  • Josh was written out of the show after losing his powers and the defeat of Shadowborg. As such, he was never added to the show's intro sequence.
  • Josh shares several characteristics with Tommy Oliver, a character from Power Rangers.
    • Both moved into town shortly before gaining powers, both wore white (although Tommy was initially Green), both wound up losing their powers, and both had the civilian power to turn invisible (although Tommy had the power to turn invisible years after Big Bad Beetleborgs, in Power Rangers Dino Thunder during his time as the Black Dino Thunder Ranger).
