Highland Towers collapse

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The remaining Blocks 2 and 3 of the Highland Towers looked like the collapsed Block 1

The Highland Towers collapse happened on 11 December 1993 in Taman Hillview, Ulu Klang, Selangor, Malaysia. Block 1 fell due to a landslide caused by heavy rain,[1] killing 48 people.[2] The complex had three 12-storey buildings, built between 1974 and 1982. The other two blocks were evacuated.

On 11 December 2004, former residents and victims gathered at the site for a final farewell.[3] Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, the wife of former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, also attended.[4]
