Level Three Treasure Hunt

Wild Canyon (ワイルドキャニオン Wairudo Kyanion?) is the first treasure hunting stage and second overall stage of the Hero story in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, and is playable as Knuckles the Echidna.

Description[]

The stage takes place in the desert, close to the Hidden Base. This stage appears to be some kind of Egyptian ruin, as it has quite a few Egyptian statues and hieroglyphics in it.

Story[]

Knuckles the Echidna must find three shards of the Master Emerald, as he recently shattered it after a verbal fight with Rouge the Bat and the appearance of Dr. Eggman.

Gameplay[]

Like all of Knuckles' stages, this level is a treasure hunting stage. Knuckles finds himself in a dry canyon area with high winds, where he must find three pieces of the Master Emerald. This stage has quite a few Egyptian statues and secret rooms to Dig into. An interesting feature of this stage is the giant wind tunnel that Knuckles can use to travel to the upper part of the level, although to go back down, he must drop through a hole to either side.

Overview[]

1st Mission: Find 3 pieces of the Master Emerald![]

Knuckles must simply find three of the Master Emerald's shards. The shards are randomly placed in any of about 56 different locations. Some of these spots include:

  • In the lower room of the first area, in one of the nearby Wooden Containers.
  • In the center of the wind tunnel leading to the upper part of the stage.
  • In the area that leads to the giant stone head.
  • On the nose of the giant stone head.
  • Atop the giant stone head.
  • Near the G.U.N. robots near the giant stone head.

2nd Mission: Collect 100 rings![]

Finding one hundred Rings in this level is fairly easy, as Rings and Ring Item Boxes are littered around the stage. If Knuckles already has the Shovel Claw, he can Dig in some places to find Item Boxes buried underground. The pillars on the floor of the lowest area feature lines of Rings connecting their peaks, along with some having Item Boxes on them as well.

3rd Mission: Find the lost Chao![]

Knuckles must already have obtained the Mystic Melody, the Shovel Claw, and the Hammer Gloves in order to complete this mission. From the starting area, the player must Climb up to the uppermost ledge of the room and head over to the corner with Steel Containers blocking the wall. By destroying them with the Hammer Gloves, the player can Dig through the center of the painting to end up in a secret room. The player must then play the Mystic Melody at the Ancient Ruin to activate it, then hop into the Warp Hole to reach another secret room with the lost Chao inside.

This mission can also be completed without the Mystic Melody or Hammer Gloves. From the starting area, the player must take the giant wind tunnel to the upper area, then immediately turn around to find a painting on the underside of a platform supported by pillars. Upon digging through this painting, the player will arrive in a dark room with paintings on each wall. The player must dig through the center painting on the right-hand wall to reach the room with the lost Chao.

4th Mission: Collect the Emerald pieces in 2 minutes 0 seconds![]

This mission is not difficult due to the small size of Wild Canyon. The player should avoid wasting time reading a lot of Hint Boxes or fighting off the G.U.N. robots.

Last Mission: Clear Hard mode![]

Knuckles must have the Sunglasses Level Up Item from Meteor Herd in order to complete this mission. The three Master Emerald shards are hidden in three set locations:

  1. The first is located in the area with the Lonely Statue, just below the 'X' shaped platform. Knuckles must Climb up and Glide towards it to get the shard.
  2. The second one is located in the upper area behind a painting. After Digging through the painting, Knuckles must put on his Sunglasses to reveal a trail of Rings. The Rings will lead to a particular painting that Knuckles can Dig through to get the second Master Emerald piece.
  3. The third shard is found in the center of the wind tunnel's mouth. Knuckles must Climb onto one of the pillars around it and use his Sunglasses to reveal a Spring. The player can simply use the Spring and it will bounce them directly into the Master Emerald piece.

Level Up Item[]

The Level Up Item for this stage is the Mystic Melody, which is required for completing the third mission of most stages. It is hidden in a chamber accessed by Digging through a painting located above the large statue head. Knuckles must have the Shovel Claw to reach the area, without the exploitation of glitches to get out of bounds.

Chao Container locations[]

  1. The first Chao Container is on top of the pillar in the far left-hand corner of the wind tunnel room.
  2. The second is against the wall to the right of the Sphinx Head outdoors.
  3. The final one is resting at the feet of the Lonely Statue near the end of the canyon opposite the Sphinx Head.

Animals[]

If the player jumps onto the wind tunnel and looks above the canyon, Big the Cat is seen over the canyon wall. However, if the same process is done again, Big will not be there.

Trivia[]

  • By Digging into the Warp Wall on the right side of the lower room, it is possible to get the lost Chao without the Mystic Melody. This trick is necessary for the fifth mission.
  • If the player looks closely at the hieroglyphics, they will notice a picture of Sonic, or most likely, the Sonic Team logo. There is also one that resembles a Chao.
  • This stage's Big sighting is the only one that was not reinserted into the HD port of the game.
  • If the player digs in the nose of the Egyptian head on the top level of the stage, there is a hidden Spring.
  • The beginning cutscene where Knuckles and Rouge argue about the Master Emerald takes place in a part of Hidden Base.
  • In the multiplayer version of the stage, the sky is dusty.
