The 442nd Siege Battalion was a clone trooper battalion in the Grand Army of the Republic, that served during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems. Troopers of the battalion were equipped with Phase II clone trooper armor that featured green markings, and utilized vehicles such as the Infantry Support Platform and All Terrain Reconnaissance Transport. Adept at besieging enemy strongholds, they served in the Battle of Abrion Bridge around 22 BBY and, during the final hours of the war, were deployed to the Trade Federation world of Cato Neimoidia in 19 BBY.
Description[]
The 442nd Siege Battalion was an armor battalion of clone troopers in the Grand Army of the Republic,[1] composed of four companies[5] with 144 troopers in each.[6] Clone trooper officers served in the unit. Members of the 442nd sported phase I clone trooper armor,[4] and later phase II clone trooper armor, decorated with bright green markings. They were typically equipped with DC-15A blaster carbines. Proficient in besieging enemy fortifications, they were equipped with vehicles such as All Terrain Reconnaissance Transports and Infantry Support Platforms that also featured green-colored markings.[1]
History[]
The 442nd Siege Battalion was created to serve the Grand Army of the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars, against the secessionist Confederacy of Independent Systems.[1] The unit fought alongside the 212th Attack Battalion and Mekedrix's company during the Battle of Abrion Bridge[4] around 22 BBY.[7] In the year 19 BBY, they were deployed to the planet Cato Neimoidia in battle against the Separatist forces there.[8] Fighting alongside Jedi General Plo Koon, who was dispatched to coordinate the 442nd's siege,[2] and his wingmate Captain Jag,[9] the battalion secured a victory for the Republic. Afterward,[10] the battalion took part in the execution of Order 66.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The 442nd Siege Battalion first appeared in merchandise created by Hasbro Inc. A 6-inch figure of a 442nd clone trooper was released in late 2016 with three other troopers: one from the 212th Attack Battalion, one from the 501st Legion, and a clone shock trooper. The set was originally released via Entertainment Earth. The 442nd clone trooper armor coloring is an exact recolor of the 212th Attack Battalion's markings.[8] Hasbro previously released a version of the trooper in the Star Wars: The Saga Collection line; however, this falls under the Legends continuity.[11]
