Makoto Okuda (jap. 屋田誠人, Okuda Makoto) is the hidden main antagonist of "Murderer, Shinichi Kudo".

He's voiced by Takahiro Mizushima.

Past[]

Childhood[]

Not much is known about his childhood, except that he lived with his father and sister. After tha latter's death, who drowned in the lake in the forest, his father lived in a hut in the forest and created the forest devil (Shiragami), he was adopted by the Hinohara family and lived there.

Murder of the Hinohara family[]

While Shinichi Kudo was investigating the murder of the Hinohara family, Makoto helped solve the case and with it the murder of his adoptive parents. However, when the case took a turn that Shinichi didn't necessarily want to reveal to the entire community, he clarified with Kazuma Shiroyama that only Makoto should have known that Takinori Hinohara killed his wife and himself since he found out that Shoko cheated on him and Daiki wasn't his biological son. After Shinichi announced that Mr. Hinohara had killed his wife for no reason, Mr. Shiroyama went to tell Makoto the truth. However, since Makoto didn't listen to him and didn't believe the story, he developed a hatred for Shinichi.

Shinichi appears[]

After receiving a letter addressed to Shinichi, Heiji, Kazuha and the Mouris set out for Higashi-Okuho. In town, they also immediately go to City Hall to ask where to find Makoto Okuda. But after a short while, they mention Shinichi, who the villagers don't like at all, and immediately get compliments from the people, who aren't exactly friendly. As they continue walking through the city, they realize that Conan has suddenly disappeared and go in search of him. During their search, they meet various people who say they have found a young man on the lake shore. Immediately, the group rushes to the lake and Ran realizes that Shinichi is sitting there. But when they speak to him, they realize that he, who's sitting there half-naked and only wrapped in a blanket, has lost his memory.

The amnesia[]

After discovering Shinichi's amnesia, the Mouris, Heiji and Kazuha take him to the Okuho boarding house, where Heiji, with Ai's help, tries to find out about Shinichi's amnesia, but they're unsuccessful. After a brief stay at the inn, everyone heads to the Hinohara house. When they arrive there, they meet the policeman Kazuma Shiroyama, who tells them something about the Hinohara family, a short time later they meet Moegi Hikawa, a former classmate of Makoto, and the reporter Misato Kawauchi. From the three, the group also learns that the residents of Higashi-Okuho hate Shinichi because he was once supposed to solve the murder of the mayor and his wife, however, his theory about the incident wasn't true and only embarrassed the mayor to light.

Shortly thereafter, they enter Makoto's former room and immediately see a huge poster of Shinichi on the wall and learn that Makoto was one of Shinichi's biggest fans before the case was solved. After the group leaves the room, Shinichi wants to have another look at the room alone. After Shinichi leaves the room, he still doesn't remember anything, but Mrs. Kawauchi says: "What about the face? Did you think I didn't recognize you?"

After that, the group goes back to the pension. After some time, Ran finds that Shinichi has disappeared. After she, her father, Heiji and Kazuha split up, Heiji finds the bloodied Shinichi and the injured reporter. A short time later, the Mouris also arrive and it's decided to hide Shinichi in the trunk of Kogoro's car until the case is solved.

The truth comes out[]

A few hours later, Heiji calls everyone together and apparently wants the case to be solved. Shinichi is back, as are the two cops who arrived shortly after Misato's attempted murder. After everyone has arrived, Heiji also begins to explain the solution to the case, but to everyone's surprise, his explanations for Shinichi are far from positive. He is even convinced that Shinichi is clearly the culprit and that the case is not a ruse. Heiji is immediately snapped at by the others, but suddenly Shinichi speaks up and says through tears that he was afraid the reporter would destroy his career. And since he couldn't remember anything, he didn't know what else to do. Nobody can believe this confession, not even the police officers, because they only heard good things about Shinichi from their colleague Juzo Megure.

Suddenly, Mr. Shiroyama appears and seems to bring Heiji the information that has eluded him. At the same moment the door to the balcony opens and the forest devil enters the room. To everyone's astonishment, he understands Heiji's conclusion and can follow him, but suddenly Shinichi pulls a gun out of his pants and wants to take his own life, but through a joint action by Heiji and the forest devil, they manage to disarm him.

When everyone has calmed down, the forest devil takes off his mask and shows his true face, namely that of Shinichi. So everyone realizes that the Shinichi who faked the amnesia can't be the real one. It turns out to be Makoto Okuda, who underwent facial surgery to shatter the image of his former role model. It also turns out that attacking Mrs. Kawauchi was an unplanned act as Makoto thought he recognized him. Eventually, it turns out that his hatred for Shinichi was sparked by the fact that the detective had once portrayed the murder of the Hinohara family as a murder-suicide. But after Shinichi and police officer Shiroyama explain to Makoto that they told the events differently to protect Daiki, Makoto bursts into tears. The case is settled and the Mouri family, Heiji and Kazuha return to the boarding house.
