Sam is an antagonist and a survivor of the outbreak in Thomas Dunne Books' The Walking Dead. He was a man living in Woodbury, Georgia, described as a bigger man, who ran the barter system. He's the one responsible for the death of Joshua Hamilton.

Nothing is known about Sam's life prior to or as the outbreak began. He could have lived in or near Woodbury before the outbreak.
Post-Apocalypse[]
Woodbury, Georgia[]
Sam ran the barter system in Woodbury, trading supplies for work. He gave Joshua Lee Hamilton many things in trade for work. One day, when Joshua was coming back from a supply run, Sam tried forcing him to give up his supplies. After Joshua refused, they had a little confrontation before Sam shot Joshua in the back of the head, killing him. After this incident, Sam was beaten by Martínez and thrown into "prison" where he was the first person to battle in the Woodbury Arena.

The Governor decided to punish Sam for killing Joshua Hamilton by forcing him to fight to the death against Stinson in the Arena. After almost killing Stinson, in a comeback attempt while Sam was looking away, Stinson managed to get up and bury a machete into his throat, killing him. It is unknown what happened to his body though it is likely it was chopped up and fed to Penny.
