How to learn pickpocketing in Kingdom Come Deliverance? Kingdom Come Deliverance Guide & Walkthrough

Last update: 20 February 2018

Pickpocketing is one of the ways of gathering valuables of other characters. Contrary to lockpicking, this ability is unavailable at first and you must learn it. Below you will find information how to do it.

You must wait with learning pickpocketing until you complete the main quest Homecoming and reach the house near Rattay that belongs to Miller Peshek (this will start a new main quest Awakening) - How to learn pickpocketing in Kingdom Come Deliverance? - FAQ - Kingdom Come Deliverance Game Guide

You must wait with learning pickpocketing until you complete the main quest "Homecoming" and reach the house near Rattay that belongs to Miller Peshek (this will start a new main quest "Awakening"). Speak with Peshek when you have time and ask him to teach you the basics of stealing. Contrary to other lessons from other trainers in the game world, this one will be free. Go with Peshek to the marked location, sneak up on him and complete the pickpocketing tutorial according to the advice. The pickpocketing skill will automatically raise to level 1 and from now you can develop it traditionally - by successfully stealing from other people.

Here are a few suggestions how to become a better thief:

  1. Pickpocketing is riskier than lockpicking, so you should try it only if a manual or automatic save was performed recently. This will enable you to avoid reputation drops or penalties for crimes when the person you're trying to steal from or bystanders discovers what you're doing.
  2. It's much easier to steal from sleeping people, although even with them you must remember that first, you must sneak up closer to them and not let them wake up. Make sure you develop your stealth skills and remove all armor parts that create unneeded noise. You can, for example, look for sleeping drunk men in case of which waking up is much less probable. You should try pickpocketing during the night.
  3. "Secure" at least 10 seconds for performing the pickpocketing - this will give you enough time to steal at least one item AND to close the stealing window before the counter stops. Don't risk with too many thefts in a row as it will increase the chance of failure.
  4. Pickpocketing might help you with avoiding the lockpicking minigame - NPC might have a key that opens the chest in the same location. Obtaining this key will enable you to gain access to the chest while skipping the minigame.
