Starfield: The best spaceships Starfield guide, tips

Are you looking for the best ship from the Starfield game? In our guide you will find the recommended ship Shield Breaker to use for most of the game. We also suggest whether it's worth using the starter ship Frontier and buying its upgrades.

In Starfield, you can fly various ships, yet look for the best ship at the same time to help you win battles in space and travel the galaxy. In this guide, we described the recommended Shieldbreaker ship and described the requirements for purchasing and using it. You'll also find out whether it is worth upgrading the first Frontier ship.

Is it worth upgrading the Frontier ship?

1 - Starfield: The best spaceships - Basics - Starfield Guide
  1. The Frontier is the first spaceship you get for free in the prologue of the main storyline. It doesn't have high stats, but it can be useful. The starter ship should be enough for you for at least the first dozen hours of the campaign, until you start to encounter clearly tougher enemy ships.
  2. We recommend spending some credits on basic Frontier upgrades. It may be worth to upgrade its engine, reactor and shields, which will increase your chances of survival and reduce the risk of frequent hull damage. Optionally, you can purchase a better laser or rockets to destroy hostile units more efficiently. You can buy new components and modifications from any technicians, such as the one at New Atlantis landing site.

Shieldbreaker and his requirements

2 - Starfield: The best spaceships - Basics - Starfield Guide
  1. The Shieldbreaker is, in our opinion, the best ship to buy and develop. It allows you to win difficult space battles, including those with elite enemy from the latter part of the main storyline.
  2. You can buy the ship in the city of New Atlantis known from the beginning of the story. After landing in Atlantis, stay on the landing site and talk to the ship services technician about buying a new ship.

  1. Shieldbreaker costs 279,425 credits by default, but the price can be reduced by developing the Commerce skill. Check out a separate page How to earn credits quickly? to learn about recommended ways to get rich (finding and selling contraband is the best).
  2. The Shieldbreaker has much better stats than the Frontier - a more durable hull, better shields, a larger fuel tank (for further flights), a larger cargo hold (as much as 2280 mass), a crew limit of 5, and better armament.
  3. You can also further modify the recommended ship by visiting the Shipbuilder (installing a shielded cargo hold and scanner jammer for smuggling contraband).

  1. Unfortunately, the Shieldbreaker has one limitation - it's a B-class ship that requires the Piloting skill to be developed. Try to unlock its first rank very early in the game.
  2. Ultimately, you need to level up Piloting to rank 3, which allows you to fly B-class ships. You can get higher ranks by completing challenges from destroying other ships (e.g. encountered space pirates). You also have to spend 2 more skill points.

On the page How to develop the Piloting skill? you will find tips on how to easily locate and destroy other ships.
