I’m a feisty red-headed author from Texas with an unhealthy obsession to the unusual and weird. Sometimes considered as eccentric and a little spunky, but mostly just a short dork. When I’m not writing, I can usually be found with my nose stuck in a book or in the blogosphere or somewhere on Twitter.

I write mostly YA--Paranormal/Urban Fantasy, Dystopian, and some Horror. My 2012 debut release Darkness Comes This Way is the first book to a YA Paranormal trilogy. There are many other projects to come.
When asked what made me want to be a writer, I’ll tell you it was from the moment I’d started reading. That one “I do not like green eggs and ham” line, and my mind had been made up for life. There’d never been much thought to anything else. I d

I know that probably sounds bad but it's kind of true. Sitting at home, surrounded by books, coffee, and my notes? That's my kind of life.(less)

It's true: To be a writer, you should be a reader. I've never understood how I can meet people that say they hate reading. It actually breaks my heart a little bit. But yes, most of the time I get inspired by reading a great book or two and from there small ideas spark of my own. I develop them through time, dedication and a lot of late nights into outlines and later a rough manuscript.
And then sometimes I'm simply inspired by strange dreams after insomnia strikes and I'm awake for 16-18 hours or more. Haha. It just all depends on whatever it is that causes the little spark. Whether it's from reading (a character, a setting, even a particular word), a dream, an episode from a television show... or whatever. My imagination goes pretty wild from the oddest things and inspiration sparks. (less)

Stop Hate, Spread the Love (A Rant)

This is not a side of me you will normally see. I just want to clarify this now. Usually, I’m laid back and quiet, and I keep my opinions--especially controversial ones as this--to myself because I don’t like conflict. Simple as that. But the past couple of weeks have been weighing on my mind and I just have to get all this off my chest before I explode. I may lose followers because of my own beli Read more of this blog post »

“You’re fearless.”
Draven laughed loudly and shook his head. Zarah frowned and crossed her arms over her chest.
“No, I’m not. Trust me. I’m scared all the time. You scare the living hell out of me.”
Her jaw dropped.
“I scare you?”
“Anyone who isn’t scared of you is insane.”
Pixie Lynn Whitfield, Darkness Comes This Way

“The house was the color of baby vomit.”
Pixie Lynn Whitfield, Chasing Dirt Roads

“Get done with the damn sibling rivalry and let's get back with the task at hand here so we can figure out what we're going to do.”

Marcus Tullius Cicero

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”
Albert Einstein

“Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
Steve Jobs

“Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them.”
William Shakespeare, Twelfth Night

Kelly My pretty Pixie! Okay so a few things. First, I love your blog and am in perpetual blog-envy. Second, I love your books and want another signed copy when Guardians Of The Night 2 comes out--and a love-interest for Thomas named Kelly, who is a 22 year old city girl with glasses and a feather pen tattoo on her shoulder, searching for her troubled rogue vampire. Write it in. And third, I love your fingers because they're the wands for all your word-awesomeness.

This is what it means to be friends with me. At 3 in the morning, you get randomly awesome profile comments professing my Pixie-love to all of goodreads.

Kelly Just thought I'd drop by and formally thank you for being one of the most awesome friends on the planet. I'd be completely lost in cyberspace without you.

And don't forget, when you're a bona fide famous writer, you owe me an interview shout-out! :o
