Sexism Killed My Interest in the Shadow of the Wind for me as well!

Like Nicole Froio in this bookriot article entitled Sexism Killed My Interest in the Shadow of the Wind, it killed my interest too. I’m quoting:

I found that this sexism clashed so much with the story Zafón was trying to tell that it often took my mind off the actual book. It wasn’t just a mere annoyance: it was something so obvious that it destroyed the escapism books usually provide me with. I

L'Anomalie by Hervé Le Tellier
"

I had heard conflicting opinions about this novel. That it was about a plane crash (this did not appeal to me); that it received the Goncourt (I am listening); that it was philosophical (mmm..); that it was science-fiction (pass on this); that the wr" Read more of this review »

Dr. Seuss
“A person's a person, no matter how small.”
Dr. Seuss, Horton Hears a Who!

Julio Cortázar
“Andábamos sin buscarnos, pero sabiendo que andábamos para encontrarnos”
Julio Cortazar, Rayuela

Stratford Caldecott
“The central idea of the present book is very simple. It is that education is not primarily about the acquisition of information. It is not even about the acquisition of ‘skills’ in the conventional sense, to equip us for particular roles in society. It is about how we become more human (and therefore more free, in the truest sense of that word). This is a broader and a deeper question, but no less practical. Too often we have not been educating our humanity. We have been educating ourselves for doing rather than for being.”
Stratford Caldecott, Beauty in the Word: Rethinking the Foundations of Education

Mark Twain
“I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.”
Mark Twain

E.M. Forster
“Spoon feeding in the long run teaches us nothing but the shape of the spoon.”

message 2: by Ted

Ted Sylvia, your offer of the Magritte book is very kind. But I have so very many books unread that it wouldn't be wise to invest the cost of doing so hoping that I would actually get around to studying it.

Anyhow, thanks very much.

PS. Now that you've become a GR author, this comment section on your profile page seems to be the only way to"message" you? Perhaps I missed a link up above.

Seemita Thanks for the friend invite and kind words, Silvia. I see you are enjoying TBK the way I did, which is wonderful news :) I look forward to our future interactions.
