Secret Desires #1

Beautiful Dreamer

Rate this book
Sweet little Ollie has narcolepsy, and most of his life, he’s been misunderstood. Even his own parents thought he was just lazy and distant. Then when they learned of his condition, his young years were full of doctor’s visits, sleep studies and medication trials. He missed out on a lot of ‘childhood’ staples, and finds comfort in them even as an adult. Playing allows him to escape from his troubles and be happy and at peace. Life can be hard sometimes, and dating is a nightmare for him. Men see him as lazy or too complicated, and don’t take the time to learn about or understand him. What he wants more than anything is a Daddy to care for and appreciate him.
Holden is a Daddy through and through. He’s got it all; a kind heart, a caring soul, and a built-in need to nurture. He even has a dad bod and dad jokes...the only thing he’s missing is a sweet boy of his own to dote on, pamper and love. His latest attempt at a relationship ended in disaster, leaving him with an empty nursery, a heaping helping of doubt, and a hole in his heart. But he still holds onto a glimmer of hope that he’ll meet his special boy. One day when he least expects it, he comes across a brown-eyed beauty who takes his breath away. The boy is misunderstood and nervous, and in need of Daddy’s love. And Holden is just the man to give it.
**This 18+ title is very low angst and insta-love, following a relationship on the fast track. It features an age play romance between a caring Daddy and his sweet, sleepy little, and contains ABDL elements. I want my readers to finish my books with a smile on their face and a fierce case of the warm and fuzzies.

I live in rural Ohio with my husband and two sons who drive me nuts, but I love them with all my heart. I enjoy reading and writing romance of all types, but gay romance is my forte and favorite! Twice the sexy men? Yes, please! My books tend to be low angst because it hurts my heart, but they do contain lots of heartfelt moments, steamy scenes and a healthy dose of humor. Thank you to everyone for checking out my page and I hope you enjoy my books. Happy reading!

My first read by Jayda Marx, and here's what I can say about this:

📌 This is an age-play M/M romance, which I have no idea if I'm into. There's a Daddy (in every sense of the word, except biological) and his little boy.
📌 It's insta-love on crack. 💯
📌 It's really sweet
, and I mean sweet like the sticky sugary treats you get at the funfair. 🍧 🍭

If this sounds like something you might enjoy, you can give this one a try!

This isn’t really a book I would normally choose to pick up, but I read Iman's review and they made it sound so sweet and adorable, I just had to give it a try. And, luckily, it turned out that they were right; this really was very cute, even if some of it is still not necessarily my thing.

This was an insta-love romance with an extremely heavy dose of the age-play kink.
The story is about Holden, a nurturing Daddy who desperately wants to take care of a little boy, and Oliver, who is a little kid inside a young-adult’s body and who also suffers from narcolepsy. When these two meet in a toy store, they have an instant connection and it was basically love at first sight. Their relationship progresses incredibly fast, and it does not take them more than a day to profess their undying love for each other.

The dynamic between these two men was definitely loving and gentle, and they take the age-play kink to the next level. I wouldn’t even really call it ‘play’ anymore, since Ollie is not a grown-man who sometimes recedes into little space; instead, he is a man with an incredibly childish personality and the mindset of a kid. He isn’t acting to be a young boy, he just is. And Holden truly treats him like a child as well; he takes the ‘Daddy’ thing to the point of him genuinely acting like a literal father to Ollie.
I can imagine some people getting a little uncomfortable about this, and I’m personally not sure how to feel about it either. Obviously it can be a little icky if you think about it too hard, especially from Holden’s perspective, but I also think it’s actually kind of nice that this is all so real to Ollie and that he’s not pretending to be anything. It doesn’t feel like he’s two different people; sometimes playing to be big Ollie and sometimes little Ollie. No, instead he’s just always little Ollie.

What made their relationship so wholesome was the complete and utter understanding and acceptance both of these men had for each other. It was like they were made for each other. Whether it was Holden tucking Ollie into bed and singing him to sleep, or them playing together with Ollie’s toys: they were both so incredibly happy and content. They adored each other and the life they could have, which was honestly really very nice.

Reread #1

Picked up this book for a reread and I can’t stop crying reading it. I can’t even put this book down at all and it just gets better the second time <3

“It was the best day of my life.” Ollie looked over his shoulder and gave me a smile. “Until I met you, Daddy.”

Original Review:

Age play is definitely one of my go-to now :P I looved this one as much as the second book. (yes i read this backwards lol) The insta love was done so well and even then, they still took their time to get to know each other. Given the short period of time and fast-paced story, the storyline was so adorable I might die from all of the sweetness. Ollie and Holden were so sweet to each other, I love their story. Third act angst was as cliche as other books - miscommunication, but it made me cry so much. I love it! And a lot of scenes made me tear up as well and some parts of it are sooo vivid I like it so much. Aahhhh I need more insta love like this <3

Ollie is the cutest little ever !!! My heart can’t take it anymore, his little dances, punching air movements and sweet giggles have my whole heart 🥰💜

I love age play, I love ABDL, but this book took me to the edge of my nerves. It is a really good book, but you have to be extremely understanding to accept the narration. I thought once you got over the initial ridiculous insta stuff it would get better and more authentic. But it remains ridiculous in its much too rushed way for the first half of the book. Age-play stories are always somehow very trimmed to insta, which is all right, the lifestyle just brings that with it and is also completely ok. I expect nothing else when I read such a book. But this one ... They know each other two days, have spoken little to each other, had two wonderful dates and are made for each other, but they are immediately exchanging I love you's and decide to move in together.

Without that overdone insta thing, it's really very good.
The book basically consists almost entirely of age-play elements, as Oliver is almost entirely stuck in his little-world. And all this is really lovingly and perfectly depicted. There is basically not much plot, the relationship is there immediately and transitions into perfect mutual acceptance and love.

“What you are is a sweet, wonderful person who happens to have this disorder. I’m sorry that it causes you problems, but you are not a problem. I didn’t ask about your condition to see if you were too much of a burden; I asked to see what I could do to help, and to better understand what you need. The condition is part of you, but it doesn’t define who you are. And it damn sure doesn’t change how I feel about you.” ❤️❤️❤️

It's perhaps a bit sad that there's no real gradual build up. But the dates make up for it. They are so simple and yet beautiful.
The sexual side is well embedded in the story, I like how it doesn't push so much to the forefront. Even if I had to laugh a little bit, but you have to see the whole thing in the context that Oliver is really absolutely inexperienced ...

“Our kiss was so good that it made me...well, you know...hard.” Daddy’s dark gaze returned. “Now there’s a sticky spot in my undies and it feels funny.” I pulled at the tight denim of my jeans, trying to relieve some pressure off of my aching flesh, but shivered when the fabric grazed across my tip.
“Lord have mercy,” Daddy whispered.
😳😳😳

I won't quote the rest, you'll have to read the book yourself and at your own risk.

When I’m in the mood for uncomplicated syrupy sweetness, a Jayda Marx book is the way to go.

Before I started this I knew I had to be in the right mood, because boy, are her books cavity inducing. She gives new meaning to the term insta-love.

But that being said, I was in the mood for a sweet book and this certainly delivered.

And I thought Ollie’s narcolepsy was interesting and made for some lovely hurt/comfort scenes.

I’ve read a lot of age play books this last year and while I never have an issue with someone wanting to be a little and acting like a kid, this book made me slightly uncomfortable.

What is explained in a lot of age play books is that these guys love their roles in their daddy/boy dynamic. But that it’s a role nonetheless. Even if the little feels like being little 24/7, he is still a adult who likes to act younger and have someone take care of him.

But here I never felt like Ollie acted, or was in a certain headspace. No, he simply was a kid in an adult body. And Holden, his daddy, treated him like a little kid all the time.

As I said, I have read a lot of age play books, some with littles who liked to be little only some of the time, and some with littles who were little almost 24/7. But even in the books where they were little almost all the time, it was always clear this was an grown up man, acting younger.

Here I felt like I was reading a book about a real child. And that’s not really what I like about age play books.

Just an example. I’ve read a lot of age play books where it was the daddy’s birthday. The boy always made something (like a drawing), but also got him a gift (as a boyfriend). Here Ollie made a drawing and made breakfast in bed like a child would make. It was too child-like and it made me uncomfortable that their entire relationship was like this.

I actually prefer the age play books where the boy is little 24/7 and not just at certain times, but here I sometimes felt Ollie was a child, and not a adult playing a role….

Look I know everyone and their mother loves this book but before you crucify me, hear me out. I know I'm not the target audience for Jayda Marx and I know two stars seems kind of harsh but just bear with me okay.

I adore Daddy books. I don't care if they are dark and taboo or cute and fluffy, I just like daddy/ boy stories. And as such, I have read A LOT of ageplay. Some amazing and others should have not been put into existence. This book, however, doesn't fall into either one of those categories. Why I'm sure you are asking. Because it's NOT an ageplay book. This is the hill I will die on, let me explain.

Jayda Marx has a very specific brand and that brand is no-nonsense, cavity-inducing fluff, which is fine. It's clearly working for her as evident by the literal hundreds of 5 star reviews. I get it. Hell, even I like my ageplay books on the fluffier side. But this isn't an ageplay book, not at all. Ollie isn't a little, but an adult that thinks he's a literal child. There, I said it.

At no point do we ever see Ollie acting like an adult. Even in 24/7 stories, even books where the little is super difunctional, at some point the little space ends and there lies an adult. They could be talking to a friend or discussing limits with their partner, the set up doesn't matter nearly as much as the outcome and that is a clear understanding that this is an adult playing a role for fun/ and or kink. That doesn't happen here. Ollie is always in little space. Even when he's supposed to be an adult, he's still little. That's not ageplay, that's a child in an adult's body.

And here's the thing, I've read books that take this route and they are really dark. The authors don't try to play it off as cute insta love because it's not. Having a character always be little isn't cute, it robs them of the agency that comes with adulthood. And it affects the other characters too. Holden didn't read caring daddy. He came off as a pseudo dom enabling (and low key taking advantage of) an extremely vulnerable man. That's not super romantic.

I know I'm in the minority here. That's fine, I get. The book is fine for the most part, and if you like these kinds of sickeningly sweet books, dope. Live you're best life. But for me, it's a no. Now normally when a book is mostly fine but didn't work for me, I give it three stars. But I'm really getting sick of these BDSM/ kink books not giving the sub a support system. I get it, having narcolepsy makes it hard for Ollie to make friends. But you mean to tell me there's not like an online group he can connect with or somethin'? He can't have one good friend? Sis don't even. 2 stars.

Beautiful Dreamer was my first age-play book and it made me fall in love with the genre, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

I hate insta-love with a passion when I encounter it anywhere else, but in age-play and DD/Lb dynamics it just makes sense and I can’t get enough of it.
The sweet caretaking, the gentle and loving relationship, the cuteness overload 🥹💕

I kind of wish it wasn’t so short, I would’ve enjoyed some more cute interaction scenes and relationship building.

CW and tropes(spoilers):
- Age gap
- Age-play and ABDL
- MC with narcolepsy
- Insta-love
- Virgin MC
- Strict top/bottom roles

DNF @ 50%

This dnf isn't surprising since I have yet to finish a story featuring age play. I'll admit that this is probably the best one I've read, and if it wasn't for the warp speed at which Holden and Ollie's relationship progressed I probably would have finished it.

They met on day one and went to the park that evening. They went to the movies the next day, and were declaring their love for each other by that evening. By the next evening, Ollie was already moving in. I don't mind stories with instalove, but this was insta-everything. It just didn't feel believable, so I stopped taking it seriously, then I lost interest.

I understand why others really liked this. If I could've looked past the fact that they were already moving in with each other after three days, I think this could've been the one that I finished. They were obviously a perfect match for each other and the way this was written, you'd almost believe fate brought them together. It was incredibly sweet how caring and understanding Holden was with Ollie, and I really really wish I could have gotten into it more. For those of you who enjoy stories with age play, can you suggest titles that I might enjoy? No rating. 🖤

Not much to say I just adored this with all my being!!
The age-play and ABDL was absolutely well done here, and I would definitely recommend to everyone who like book like this.
The the dynamic between Ollie and Holden was so soft and pure i really liked this, there were no Dom/sub elements in it and it was so refreshing because most of the time when I pick up ageplay/ABDL book it contains it.
I just loved how they both worked out together, even if everything went on pretty fast and it insta love (what normally would maybe not sit so right with me) but here it just was so fitting.
Holden took such good care of Ollie and was so understanding when it came to his narcolepsy and all the things what came with it. I‘m really glad I picked that book up.

3.5⭐️ Not a book I‘d choose on a regularly basis, but it was well written and the love story went straight forward (there’s not much more than their love story). It was over the top sweet and fast paced (don’t mean it in a bad way, it’s the style of the author) nevertheless I was surprised that I enjoyed it. What you get:
- comfort read
- age play (Olli is very little with pacifier and diapers, if you mind)
- Daddy kink (caregiver through and through)
- low to no angst
- low on steam
- a lovely and caring couple
- happy ending
- narcolepsy
- mentioned difficulty childhood die the the narcolepsy

This was so not what I had imagined at all. This was so ridiculously new like an uncharted territory for me. It is about Daddy and his sweet boy, but not the type we normally read. I was so shocked to discover this new role play thing and was blown away with how enticingly sweet and amazingly romantic they were.
It was so bizarre, but it worked for them. I think that is what really matters.

A relationship has no universal structure because you are the one who architects it.

Finally, I think moral of the story is I need a daddy in my life.

Although the whole relationship between Ollie and Holden is based on incredibly unrealistic and too fast moving love (for my taste at least), I have to say that the story was pretty sweet.

You really just have to get through the first thirty percent and then all the fun begins.

This was a cute read. Their relationship developed super fast, but I guess that’s something you can expect from Jayda Marx. Both Ollie and Holden were super cute with each other. What I liked especially about this one is that Ollie always wants to apologize for the state he gets in because of his narcolepsy but Holden always tells him that he should never apologize for it. I love how while Holden did make mistakes he tried to make it better as soon as he realized his misstep. In general I just loved how Holden didn’t make a big deal out of Ollies condition and he was always so cute with him.
Very much enjoyed this cute and fluffy story. The only downside was that this sometimes felt a little lengthy but it wasn’t too bad.

This is awful. I've read a lot of age play and it's how I found this one, not realizing I really disliked this author. As I was reading the first chapters I got more concerned that this isnt kink, it's weird infantilism and borderline pedophilia. Even the way Holden talks to Oliver at the very beginning is how you would talk to a child and it was extremely off putting. I'm honestly concerned that so many people like it and are getting the idea that this is accurate age play rep when is most certainly is not.

What a great read!

I love sweet romances. With my favorite kink it’s even better. Ollie is such a sweetheart and Hudson is the perfect Daddy for him. Plus his Uncle Shawn is the best. We just need Shawn to get his own boy. Preferably someone who will be a great friend to Ollie because he could sure use one.

Every now and then I get a hankering for something different and read a story with a healthy dose of kink or taboo. I've read books about littles before, some I enjoyed, more I didn't. It's a hard concept to wrap my head around, esp the idea of a full-time little, as is the case w the MC in this story. No shame meant whatsoever. I completely embrace the you-do-you approach to life, even if I can't always relate. With this story though, the little aspect felt oddly overdone, unhealthy even. Maybe it’s just my lack of knowledge showing but I was somewhat weirded out by the complete lack of any venturing into the adult world by Ollie.

Also, the story was too fluffy for me. I knew it would be going in given the preface by the author at the beginning of the book, but I was very glad to get that bit of angst around the 85% mark. It helped to offset all that gooey sweetness! So, while apparently very well-liked by other readers, too discomforting, too fluffy, and just not my cuppa.

This is a first for me with this author and I so wasn't disappointed!
I needed fluffy and sweet and low angst and I adored Ollie.
This is the first read where the little is living 24/7 as a little, I was a bit skeptic about how it would turn out, cuz well, the trope is newish to me anyway, but they made it work.

Holden and his best friend/collegue go shopping for a woman in the office who's just had a baby. Holden is quite familiar with the place, as he's a Daddy, so shopping for kid stuff comes easy to him. His friend, being a Dom, is less familiar, but I'm interested in seeing where his story goes too. I hope he has one, or gets one soon. I'm intrigued!
So, this is where they see Oliver, sitting on the floor of the shop, playing with a really expensive toy train set that he loves but can't afford. He comes in to play with it when he's feeling a little restless and hopes that nobody takes off with it anytime soon so he can continue to play with it.

Their meeting is cute, though I never understand how kinks just come up in the first few minutes of meeting someone, but this felt geniune and I didn't mind the quickness. As I've noticed, these types of relationships do tend to develop and progress quickly. That was the same with these two.

Fortunately, everyone seems supportive for the most part, though we do hit a big snag with the folks that Holden works with and there is a bit of a misunderstanding that I cannot believe Holden let get so out of hand, but all was well that ended well and I knew that these two would be okay. Holden wasn't letting Ollie go, no matter what. I don't think his bestie (Uncle Shawn) would've let that happen anyway. (Seriously, does he get a story?)

Anyway, super cute, very light read with a happy ending. Who can be mad at that?

I love this book from start to finish. You can help but fall in love with Ollie. He has to be the most adorable little I've ever read about. When Ollie and Holdens relationship started in the book, I thought wow this is going so so fast and didn't know how I felt about it but once I read further into the book I realised it worked beautifully and I loved how it was all developing. It all just clicked perfectly and sometimes it's hard for authors to achieve this with this type of read, but Jayda nailed it.
If you're into age play reads I'd definitely recommend this book.

I already loved this book even before I read it. And after I read it, I wasn't disappointed. I so adore Ollie, he's so precious. I'm so glad he got to know Holden and have someone take care of him. And I love the fact that he appreciates every single thing Holden does for him. I was really sad that he has no one with him, especially with his condition. Holden is just the right guy... or Daddy for him. I adore his friendship with uncle Shawn. Speaking of... I can't wait to read about his story. I'm looking forward to read it, along with her other books she's going to release.

Man, I could Jayda Marx's books day in and day out. They are such a pleasure to read. I always fall in love with the characters, and this one is no exception. I'm so glad Ollie and Holden found each other. Even though I read this first on KU, I'm going to purchase my own copy. Keep up the lovely stories, please!

Beautiful Dreamer was everything I love in a Daddy/little book. Ollie's character flew off of the pages and I wanted to give him a hug. Holden was strong and loved little Ollie with all of the care he needed and deserved. Editing was spot on and I love this author's writing style.
