The story itself read like a short cozy-mystery but in space or better to say - on another planet and not really in space. Liked the characters and the atmosphere as well as the short glimpse into an alien culture.

The continuation did not disappoint. I loved to be back with "Four Home" and I am rooting for them every step of tge way. Their development is fantastic and their dynamic together so wholesome. The autodages are perfect companions. Can't say a lot since it would spoil previous books but suffice to say, i loved the tournament and all around it. Gripping read. Also great getting a bit more about the Raiders. Cannot wait for whatever comes next for our Heroes....more

(my review can never do it justice - i am simply not wordy enough) Christopher Ruocchio managed to blow me away with the second book in the Sun Eater series. Tense but amazing atmosphere. World-building first class but what i really loved were the characters. Even though it is told by one person and we see everything through his eyes, the book still conveys other characters perfectly. While reading, you get the feeling you read an historical fiction novel which "happened" in the future. Mind-blowing and the prose is A-mazing.
But the ugliness of the world does not fade, and fear and grief are not made less by time. We are only made stronger. We can float together on their tides, as otters do, hand in hand.

Epic in proportions and so many different races, ships, worlds and political intrigue. My imagination was overflowing at times. At times i was rather confused and didn't find my bearings until further into the book. But the writing style was, as usual, very good. its just with sci-fi novels, i always have to find my way slower and therefor i am very confused for a long time until it finally clicks (also english is not my mother tongue so I have sometimes difficulties understanding whats being said). Dialogues between the characters were fun to read/listen to and i have some, i really like and one who annoyed me by the end. What I really loved was the bond the crew had with each other. The family they created with all their flaws and bickering.
Anyways, i really enjoyed this quite a lot and I am really looking forward to the next. ...more

As expected from Adrian Tchaikovsky the world is exceptionally well thought of and the people living in it are exposed to various hardships. But what the people left behind on earth sounded grim and desolate as well. I felt the oppression through the pages. Fascinating concept and amazing imagery.
