A group of talented misfits band together to pull off a heist against the Medici Family.
I love me a good heist book, so I was excited to pick this one up! There is a lot of info-dumping in this, which could cause the pacing to drag at times. I did like how we got to see the how and the why of everyone being picked to join the heist. I liked the found family aspect of the story, but I do think at times the characters began blending together, which made it hard to distinguish them from one another. I wish they would have been fleshed out a little bit more to allow for their personalities to shine through. I liked that we got POVs from each character, which allowed for learning the backstories of everyone. I liked that all the characters had their own side plots they were handling while participating in the bigger heist.
I do think this would make a pretty cool movie though! ...more

After the death of her boyfriend River O'Dell, popular girl Remy Green goes missing and is presumed dead a few days later. Her cousin, Jules, is convinced she is not dead. She teams up with Sam, River's cousin to find out what really happened to Remy.
I enjoyed this story for the most part... but I didn't think it was anything memorable in my opinion. There are heavy themes about grief, friendship and finding you voice, which I thought were well done. I wanted to like Jules a lot more than I did, but she rubbed me the wrong way at times. It is revealed pretty early in the book that Jule's has always had feelings for River, but he was in love with Remy and because of this, Jules was constantly putting herself down for not being Remy, and it felt strange at times. I did like how her opinion of herself changes as the story progressed, but that was still in the back of my head as I continued reading. I also found it a bit strange that Sam looked almost identical to River, and that was why Jules was paying him any attention in the beginning. I did really enjoy his character though, so I'll let it slide. ...more

Hayden has always felt like she is in competition with hockey for her father's attention. He owns a Chicago hockey team, and it has always been his pride and joy. When Hayden is visiting her father, she meets Brody Croft one night in a bar, and takes him home with her and they share a night of steamy sex. She then discovers he is a player on her dad's team, and things get a bit complicated - especially because she is currently on a "break" with her on-again, off-again boyfriend back home.
I'm not the biggest fan of the cheating trope and I PERSONALLY think that if you're on a "break" you're still in a relationship and shouldn't be off sleeping with other people but maybe that's just me... I did like Brody as a love interest, and I wish Hayden had just been straight up and honest about her feelings toward him. I do think that they had a lot of chemistry, but some of the dialogue was very cringy and made me get the ick a bit. I did like the side plot of the betting-scandal, although it was quite predictable - it was a nice to focus on something other than the romance at times.
It is a very quick read, so if you're looking for something you can finish in one sitting, this would be a great pick! ...more

Germaine Johnson struggles with connecting with people and has just been laid off at her job. She is offered a job at City Hall answering phone calls for the Senior Citizens Helpline. She discovers the mayor has a plan to close down the senior centre to get rid of the trouble makers feuding with the neighboring golf club run by Don Thomas. Germaine originally wants to help the Mayor, but when she gets to know the trouble makers, her opinion changes.
I was not the biggest fan of this. I found it to be extremely boring, with very unlikeable characters. I didn't like how it felt that people were taking advantage of Germaine, because she didn't understand most social interactions. I also wasn't a fan of the love interest, and felt that he too was just taking advantage. I did give a half star because I liked the cast of Seniors - they were fun, and honestly the only reason I continued reading this book. ...more

LaRynn and Deacon had a short fling during their teenage years but did not end on the best terms. Now, a decade later, their grandmother's have passed away and left them each with partial ownership on their dilapidated home. LaRynn has the money to fix the place up, but is unable to access her trust fund until she is married. Deacon has the skills to fix the building, but no money to do so. They decide to get married in order to have all the pieces they need to fix up the property.
I think this definitely started quite slow, and took me awhile to get into, but by the end of the story I was enjoying it more. The miscommunication in this drove me wild, they acted quite childish for the majority of the story in my opinion. I think that the characters did have a lot of development, which I enjoyed. It was nice to see them grow closer, and learn to open up and trust one another. I thought the ending was very cute, and it was probably my favourite part of the story....more

After the tragic lose of both parents in a subway accident that leaves Estela the sole survivor, Estela moves into La Sombra, her ancestorial Spanish castle. There, strange things begin to happen, and Estela uncovers dark family secrets.
I thought the concept of this book sounded really cool, but I think it could have been executed much better. Estela is definitely an unreliable narrator, as at the beginning of the book she is completely mute because of the incident that took her parents. She often hallucinates and can't tell what is real from fiction, which makes it difficult as a reader to understand what is going on at times. I wasn't the biggest fan of the romance, and felt that it was very rushed. The insta-love is CRAZY - taking only 13 days for the relationship to be at the peak. I think that the colossal amount of events that happened within these 13 days without any explanation or lead up made it feel a bit silly by the end. I did really enjoy the castle setting, and the gothic atmosphere and thought the description of the location were really well done and was definitely my favourite part of the book. ...more

Sera has never felt like she belonged with the Cerulean in the City in the Sky. She is chosen as the next sacrifice to break the tether to her land, allowing them to move to a new location. When she jumps from the cliff, something goes wrong and she finds herself in Kaolin. She is taken by the humans, and held captive for their greed.
I don't know what it was about this book but I couldn't get into it. It's quite long, and felt like it dragged so much throughout. I feel like it definitely could have been shorter, and would have still told the same story. I didn't feel connected to any of the characters, and didn't particularly care what happened to them. I thought the idea that the Cerulean's had magic blood was interesting, but I wanted to know more behind the why.
I won't go out of my way to pick up the next book in the series. ...more
Everything that could go wrong on a senior trip to London has gone wrong for Wren Wheeler. In a desperate attempt to salvage the trip, she decides to go have breakfast at The World's End restaurant, only to discover it's closed when she arrives. She runs into a British boy there, who she quickly realizes is the Crown Prince of England - Theo. He just wants to be away from the palace and his controlling mother, so Wren agrees to help him avoid detection. When they part ways, he gives her his number, stating she can call in a favor if needed. When she arrives at the airport late, she discovers that multiple flights have been delayed and cancelled because of an comet about to hit the Earth and destroy man kind. She decides to call in her favour to make it home to see her family before it hits.
This was such a fun read - I honestly didn't expect to like it as much as I did, but it was extremely entertaining. This takes place over the span of 8 days before the comet is to hit Earth, and I thought the countdown at the beginning of each chapter helped raise the suspense for the reader. I really liked Wren and Theo as main characters. Their banter was great, and they had me giggling a few times. I loved watching them grow closer and get more comfortable with one another as they continued their mission. All of the shenanigans they got up to were so much fun to read about. Also, this features an ADORABLE DOGGO so what's not to love?!
We are left on such a huge cliff-hanger and I WILL be picking up the next book IMMEDIATELY to see how the story ends!...more
I definitely enjoyed the first book a lot more then this one, but I still had a good time reading it. This picked up immediately where the first book ends, but it did feel like it dragged a lot more then the first did. There are many many twists and turns in these short chapters, that keep you on the edge of your seat as you read. I didn't care too much for either of the romances, and liked the mystery/games aspect of the story much more. Although we got many answers, we also got A LOT more questions that I need answers to!
I am intrigued to see where the story ends in the next installment. ...more

Vesper Montgomery has the ability to summon your worst fears and bring them to life. She learned the hard way that this can be a very dangerous power, causing her to go on the run and vowing not to use it again. She gains a spot in the Tournament of Unraveling, a competition that would allow her to rewrite her past. She turns to MMA fighter Sam Hardy to train her.
I thought this was a very interesting read, with intriguing characters. I thought Versper was a great character, and liked learning more about her and her past. I liked how she had to learn to embrace her power, and no longer be afraid of what she could do. I thought the different abilities and powers the Oddities had were so interesting, and I liked how there was such a vast variety of them. I liked the dynamic that Vesper and the other Oddities and Baselines from the gym had. They welcomed her with open arms, and I loved how they worked with her to control her powers. It was interesting how their developing friendships played into the Tournament. There were times where I felt the story dragged, and felt a bit repetitive, which is why I didn't give it a higher rating.
I would be interested in reading the next book in the duology, but I'm not sure if it will ever be released. ...more
