Fry reads almost everything with emphasis and gives the feeling that something bad is about to happen anytime, most of the time.
I get tired listening to him, I don't know how he managed narrating whole series. Probably suffered clenched teeth syndrome, throat soreness or something. It is not just phsycal, but emotional exhaustion also. Pages after page, his voice like a slap echoing in a dark cave. It is a shame too, considering he has a lovely voice and amazing voice acting....more

That scene was even more maddening in the audible version. All that idiotic misunderstandings and non-explanations.

Fry's Harry is still whiny. But someone must have told him that he should talk with more emphasis, after the first book, and he has taken that to heart! He got over-shouty and intonatey and pitchy. Still a great performance though!...more

Since, I've read and re-read this book in Turkish, in English and the paperback format, ebook format. This time, I've decided to try audible version. The narrator I'm listening to is Stephen Fry. I've listened to a comparison vid before deciding on him. While both are good narrators, Fry suited better to me. And I think he was the best choice after listening the whole book. He is the first male narrator I've listened to who didn't think reading a female voice means, giving this annoying shrilly quality to his voice.
Even though I've had a voice in my head for every character, after watching the movies, he didn't sound foreign to me. He was that good! With most of the voices... His Harry voice was the single annoying thing about him. It was just whiny. But all in all I've really enjoyed his reading....more

Rule, baby boy, you are a fucking werewolf chieftain of one of the strongest clans and heir to another. You are around 60 years old, successful businessman and a hot piece of ass. Ffs stop channeling Jacob from twilight. No more angsty brooding stuff.
Cullen and Cynna rock. Keep it up! I want more time with them and I want to read about their baby.
Oh and one of the fight scenes in this one was awesome. I really like the diversity in the story and detailed police work in this series....more
Shit hits the fan. Plot was nicely done as always. It got even more complicated. That's all I'm saying about the plot. Oh, and after that ending of thShit hits the fan. Plot was nicely done as always. It got even more complicated. That's all I'm saying about the plot. Oh, and after that ending of the last book, we sure are left high and dry!
Let's get to the characters. Lily was the rock *mostly, somewhat* in this installment if you can believe! And Rule was yelling at God or Lady whatever "why meeee". While trying to create a love beyond anything, Wilks actually fucked up Rule's character. I can understand the need to show us how much Lily matters , but doing this in a way completely opposite to who Rule is? Nope. I'm annoyed with this turning his/her back on fundamental values of his/hers thingie to prove their love for another when it is done in thr cheesiest romance books, here it was maddening.

But I will exercise some self control, because I really love this series. I know, I'm so sane and benevolent.

And again, where the fuck is Cullen's baby?! I don't want to be told about pictures *altough it was so very cute of Cullen to be one of those parents who are like; see, this is my baby sleeping, this is sleeping on her back and eating and eating while drooling aand look, look, she's taking a shit! oh wait, lemme show you a pic where she takes a shit and sleeps at the same time *, I want to know about her!
[image] I knew it! It's all baby's fault. They are cute little buggers who controls the soul sucking cats
I stopped making sense to even myself *lies* so I'll just stop with my yammering. My rating would be 4.5 stars which would be rounded into 5 if not for the yappy Rule moments. But thanks to his weak furry arse it's 3.5 stars which should be rounded into 3 because I am being a class A bitch right now. But again since I know this is all about me being a bitch I should make it 4 to be fair. So 3 stars it is....more

Lupi and everyone who is of the blood has a new enemy *actually we were introduced to him at the novella, Human Nature*. And Benedict has a second chance *she was mentioned in the very same novella in passing. that must be where Wilks was stretching the plot in her mind. hamfisted but not bad*. Benedict and Arjenie's relationship felt rushed and not rushed. *I know, I know I make the best sense and am very helpful with feelings. No need for swooning *
And that ending! Best one so far. I can't wait to read the next book so I'll have to cut this short and gorge myself on some lupi. Huh that sounded bad....more

Now you may be asking yourselves, what is it so exciting about an old woman... Let me give you the spoiler (view spoiler)[She burned the sheets with a dragon. Literally... or maybe figuratively.. hmm that brings some questions. Anyways the moral of this little brainfarting is that, she did wild dragon dance with an actual dragon. (hide spoiler)]. If you ever reach to that level of coolness, you'll get to turn your nose down at Li Lie. Which is never.

Aside from The Grandma, there is more information about dragons and their meddling ways. And shiny lupus politics, which are quite complex in its simplicity. And silent. So basically you need to guess what others will guess you are guessing and act according to that guess, which is doing neither the opposite nor the exact actions of the guesses but finding a middle ground that makes you look both powerful and caring. Yeah...

Lily is kind of irritating. She's such a stuck up, I need to have a logical reason for everything person. Which is okay in little doses but after awhile it's grating on nerves. Her voice turned into a high pitched, annoying voice in my mind. But she has her moments.
Cynna is getting lovelier each book. I can't wait to see her and Cullen as parents again. They are cute.
Oh and the plot was executed nicely. Not one boring moment. Very different villians. That's one of the alluring points for this series. Neither characters nor the storyline gets stale....more

I am glad I don't sound bitter.
I don't mean to say this book is all about hitting the home run, it definitely isn't. It has a solid plot. And new, seemingly unimportant characters who'll be key plot lines later on, but only thing I felt was annoyed while reading this book. So I'll just shut up now....more

I loved what happened with the bond. It let us see whether the relationship between Rule and Lily was real or forced upon them.
Finally Toby turned into a reality in their lives instead of being just a plot point. I don't like when kids are hidden in the closet to take them out only when story needs a shake down. I loved his PoVs. He is really cute and I felt for him as his feelings are revealed.

At the end of the book, my dislike for Cynnia had turned into genuine like and my reaction to Cullen went from who's a good boy, my little sullen wolfie will be a good boy to I want him for myself. Drool. Sigh.
At first they had looked incompatible to me, the author trying to fix them up just to get rid of the third wheel feely or for plot conveniences. But they fit. It is a different yet even more engaging fit than Lily and Rule's.
Writing was better than the book before, none of that dizzying and boring stage settings. It was fast paced and interesting. Some of the characters travel to another realm and go on a quest to find a magical artefact. I really liked Gan's place in the story. She is literally the demon child from hell who is learning the consequences of souls. But I guess, that's true for most of the children.
