”I like you better this way." For some reason, admitting this made her face go hot right away; she was very glad that he still had his face pressed into his pillow and the other boys were still in Noah's room. "Crushed and broken," Gansey said. "Just the way women like 'em.”
great moody fall/winter escapism read. found family. ghosts. tarot cards. psychic readings. magic. whispering trees. leylines.
love the friend group and their chemistry together— ronan especially
tho i did guess some of the *twists* early on and the book leaves questions unanswered and stones unturned for the future books in the series, but could have had a more concise ending (i did love the cliffhanger!)
did have to kinda trudge thru the first 50% as the characters are built up but the plot is slow moving at first. it just took me a while to feel connected to the story.
will continue with the series ! also didn’t love the audiobook narration so probably will continue physically ...more

im a wh*re for anything gatsby but this didn’t do the original story any justice i was hoping this would be more high-fantasy but it is set in the modern day in the modern world and the fantasy elements don’t really come into play until halfway through the book. jordan is even a tiktok star. ...more

a britney/xtina/JT inspired story about a pop girl’s rise to fame with poignant prose had several highlights and really enjoyed the writing style i definitely am interested in reading more from Isabel Banta in the future
but i didn’t connect much to the setting and to our main pop protagonist, Amber Young. it felt like Amber was a secondary character in her own story. i never fully bought that she wanted to become a pop star, more that she just fell into it. i think Gwen was a far more interesting character by far

penelope douglas continues to force these strange age gaps and make sexual tension out of thin AIR with barely any plot also, im convinced Krisjen is a bot. no personality, no interests .. besides seducing these grown men, wanting to me “owned” by one, and already acting like a psuedo-mother to her younger siblings and then once she finally *picks* which brother (thank god she chose correctly unlike credence), she is SO quick to discuss getting pregnant like DAMN
i kept thinking that she felt like a victim. let teens be TEENS. ...more

It still stinks.” this is an actual quote from the book that i think sums it up perfectly.
my main issue with this was the writing style— it stinks. real bad. no 20 page glossary or flowery prose or overuse of italics can reshape THAT turd. i should have known it wouldn’t end well when she began by describing the MMC’s scent as a … buttery stone. girl what? what does a stone smell like .. and quickly.
then the dialogue is your typical snarky romantasy protagnist fare that feels overdone at this point. very celaena sardothian wannabe.

⭐️ 3.75 stars initial review for a debut novel, this was so fun! you can see how Elsie Silver’s writing has improved over the years but every book has that same sassy, swoony, spicy charm. rich grumpy businessmen are not my type, but Billie gave Vaughn just enough of a reality check that i still found myself blushing. might be one of the *only* contemporary “enemies to lovers” that deserves the trope title i also loved seeing the nuggets of baby Violet — can’t wait to read her book next in the series ...more

”Stop writing about me.” “You first.”
WOW this was so much more than I was anticipating. definitely crosses the line from romance into women’s fiction and i thought it was so well done. the angst! the fully fleshed out side characters! the humor! had a fabulous time. eva & shane are characters that will stick with me for a long time.
just didn’t click fully with Audre (what 12 y/o talks like that ??? granted, i dont have much experience with preteens nowadays) and thought the 3rd act conflict could have worked a bit better maybe ?
a definite romance fav!!!
