The Night Circus

A very interesting and bizarre book - bizarre in a good way! What I like about the creativity of this novel is that it all feels somewhat believable even though it is very fantastic. Over the past couple of years I have read books in the fantasy/supernatural genre where the made-up elements feel forced and kind of silly. That was not the case with this book. (view spoiler)
I have no problem recommending this to a person who likes a good story and good descriptive narrative.

I like this book, a book that seemed imbued with magical realism as well as layered with fantasy.. I appreciate authors who take chances and Morgenstern went out on a limb for this one.

Just noticed this comment on here from a couple of years ago - sorry to not respond earlier, Michael!
Its rather timely that you mention Magical Realism. I have read a few books lately designated Magical Realism and ended up researching the term a bit. I wish I had known more about the literary style back when I read this one. I can definitely see this being in that category from what I remember.

I haven't heard, but it would make a very good (and visually stunning) movie.

Until I see a cast list on IMDb, I am skeptical. But, we shall see!

Nice review! I found this at a second hand store; here's to hoping it's my cup of tea.

I am finally giving this a whirl and love the writing so far. I will consider your points about realism, which sound good.

I hope you enjoy! This is one that seems to go both ways (love or hate) a lot. I really hope you end up on the love side of things! :)
