WHAT.THE.HECK.WAS.THAT.ENDING.

The second Scholomance book is everything you would want after the first one, except it's darker and more delicious.
Except, the ending will leave you in pieces.

Note. I grew up with the generation who waited a year for the next book, after watching beloved characters fall into hell in The Mark of Athena. This was worse.

(If you like, come hang out with me on booktube: https://www.youtube.com/@UnfortunateA...)

Pre-publication:
Reading the first book in a series the day it comes out might be all fun and good until
you realise that means you have
exactly the maximum possible waiting time before the sequel.

I regret nothing
I think

There isn't even a publishing date yet.

Update:
We have a page-count! (Too short, anything would be too short...)
We have a synopsis! (Too vague, What will that message mean for El and Orion?)
We have a publishing date (Much too far away, but hey, a girl's gotta have something to live for.)

Marlienable Yes same here!! But it was so good I'm happy I'll get to reread it one week before part two comes out ❤️☺️

Jamie July 6, 2021 according to Amazon pre order ❤️❤️

Fat Climber My thoughts exactly!

The pain!

That makes me so happy! I only checked Goodreads.

Shima Marlienable wrote: "Yes same here!! But it was so good I'm happy I'll get to reread it one week before part two comes out ❤️☺️"

I always used to do that, but at some point, I fell out of the habit (probably as the number of series I was following went up) Now I just tend to kind of pick up sequels and hope I remember enough to understand what's going on.

Elise Does anyone know what this series is a crossover with? It's the first book I've read from this author but I'm curious about the crossover part of the blurb

Shima Elise wrote: "Does anyone know what this series is a crossover with? It's the first book I've read from this author but I'm curious about the crossover part of the blurb"

Hey! I've read her two standalone and the first in her other series. I don't really see an obvious connection between this series with those books (so far). I think crossover might mean between genres, or maybe adult and YA, but I'm really not sure.

Elise Okay that's a really weird way for them to describe it but that makes more sense lol. I was reading about all get other books and I couldn't figure what other book it could be crossing over with

Shima Elise wrote: "Okay that's a really weird way for them to describe it but that makes more sense lol. I was reading about all get other books and I couldn't figure what other book it could be crossing over with"

I agree, the wording's definitely weird. (By the way, I can't help by totally recommend Uprooted and Spinning Silver, they're her standalone books and are really amazing! But they have a different vibe from this one, more adult and fable-like)

Selah You just summed up the story of my life. 🤣👍

You and me both!

CR I just finished this!!! Your going to DIE.

Shima CR wrote: "I just finished this!!! Your going to DIE."

I'm excited enough that I almost don't want to read it, if that makes sense! (Obviously, I'm going to though)

Shima Actorleeminho wrote: "Why is no one talking to me I'm new here and I'm an actor from Korea is it because I'm from Korea is damn so sad but I love to reads thanks all friends"

Welcome to Goodreads :)

Susan I just finished it, and came here hoping someone would say it.

Megan I just finished the book and I'm here for the solidarity. Lol! ❤

Carmen Shattered... I am in pieces. When I got to the schematics I went back to read the last couple if paragraphs because my brain just couldn't even process.

Heather I just CANNOT EVEN with that freaking ending! What in the the actual f….. 😱

Shima Susan wrote: "I just finished it, and came here hoping someone would say it."

Ahh, I can relate.

Shima Megan wrote: "I just finished the book and I'm here for the solidarity. Lol! ❤"

The solidarity is both needed and appreciated!

Carmen wrote: "Shattered... I am in pieces. When I got to the schematics I went back to read the last couple if paragraphs because my brain just couldn't even process."

Right? That seemed mean even for a chapter ending, let alone a book!

Beth March Ughhhh I’m so mad at that ending

Andrew Levy Ditto

Sunny Exactly.

message 26: by M (new) - rated it 4 stars

M SPOILERS.
Yeah TBH I was kinda bummed about the ending, I felt like we weren't really given a ton of time with Orion or enough reason to like him. I also just can't think of literally any reason he did that? I hope it's supposed to be confusing.

McKenna Roberts I made the mistake of finishing it right before I went to bed.... I got very little sleep because I couldn’t stop thinking about that ending

Rebecca Froebe Seriously!!!!

Stephenie Stevens Yes! Same. I was fortunate to sit in a virtual Q&A with Naomi Novic last Monday. I had preordered this one. It had arrived. I wasn’t ready to start reading because I was in the middle of A Deadly Eduction. Now I’ve finished both in 7 days, and I’m in shreds. How are we supposed to sit on this for a year?! According to that session, Book 3 is finished and to the editor beyond changes, but still not planned for release until fall 2022. Argh!

Ashish Rawat Yeahhh!! Exactly my thoughts about the ending. I had to re-read the last bit twice just to be sure I got it right!

message 31: by Nat (new) - rated it 5 stars

Nat I literally just finished the book and wtf. I thought the ending of the first book was cruel BUT THIS. THIS IS JUST TORTURE!

Verena Macziejek SPOILERS
can we just all agreee that you-know-who lives??? I mean how could it end like this. Like no like heck no

Samantha I just finished it and I'm unreasonably angry. Like so angry that I have to WAIT. Ugh

message 34: by Maria (new) - added it

Maria Vallejo WHY DID ORION DO THAT?!? I’m so confused! The school was going to break off into the void! Wouldn’t Patience and Fortitude die then!!? Or, if they came out into the world, they could kill the moremouth then. WHAT THE F*CK?!? WHYYYY?!?

Lori Rosenkranz Please, please, PLEASE someone reassure me that there’s a third book in the works? Please?!?

Shima Lori Rosenkranz wrote: "Please, please, PLEASE someone reassure me that there’s a third book in the works? Please?!?"

There is definitely a third book in the works! I think it's already finished but it won't be released until next year. :((

Cynthia I’ve never wanted a third book more except for Patrick Rothfuss and I’ve given up hoping for that.

Shima Cynthia wrote: "I’ve never wanted a third book more except for Patrick Rothfuss and I’ve given up hoping for that."

Right? At least Wise Man's Fear didn't end on this kind of cliffhanger.

message 39: by Ben (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ben I love this ending so much because I hate it so much! So damn good I screamed “NO!” and threw the book across the room.

Orion is addicted to killing and just got given the gift of every mal on Earth. They made a honey-pot for mal-murder crazed wizards and caught the ultimate prize!

And yeah, after Wise Man’s fears I’ve given up that Rothfuss is gonna close that saga out in three. RIP Kvothe, May the Queen Galadriel rule forever!

Lauren SPOILERS. Solidarity, friends. I just finished it and would’ve thrown it across the room but it was a library book. I’m pretty sure Naomi Is trying to torture us all by making us wait until next fall. Maybe they’ll speed it up to next spring? 🤞🏼 SOMEONE SEND AN ADULT. I can’t deal with waiting on this and rothfuss’s third book too. The cliffhanger on this one was just mean. I’m hoping they’ll resolve this early on in book 3, like oh yeah Orion just killed Patience and jumped out into the portal at the last second, sorry we scared you.

MarissaAlyn It’s a worse ending than Mark of Athena?!?!?! That’s honestly terrifying 😭

message 42: by Be (new) - rated it 5 stars

Be I literally just finished this book and I’m emotionally unstable right. I guess the ending so i wasn’t surprised it i still cried like a freaking baby. I’m trying to figure out what is making me so sad, i think it’s the little shimmer of hope that held out for all the way till the literal last sentence.

Janna WHAT. THE. F. LAKE??

Cynthia I'm dead! That ending!

message 45: by Ilgın (new)

Ilgın i didn’t even read the first book but i too have waited after beloved characters fell into hell in The Mark of Athena, literally, and i feel so seen now that you’ve mentioned it. i am intriuged to read these!

message 46: by Jim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jim B. Spoilers

So many reviews screaming about that ending. As cliffhangers go that was pretty telegraphed. Since El is the narrator you knew she'd get out for the third book. The only question was Lake. I imagine Lake will end up in the void, El will find a way to save him and put him right after he's stricken with void psychosis, possibly with the help of the new York enclave because she swore she'd never go there and fantasy authors love to shrug off absolutes. And, then there will be marriage and healing circles and plenty of sarcasm.

Shima Jim wrote: "Spoilers

Haha, I agree that the ending wasn't too unpredictable, especially after the conversation El and Orion had about his whole deal with killing monsters, I think the screaming is mainly a result of the general angst of having to wait for the next book to see what happens.
Also, don't know about thex marriage thing, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for the sarcasm and healing circles. :))

Shima Ilgın wrote: "i didn’t even read the first book but i too have waited after beloved characters fell into hell in The Mark of Athena, literally, and i feel so seen now that you’ve mentioned it. i am intriuged to ..."

Oooh, first of all, I'm so happy people got the reference!
Also, I think there is a good chance you'll like this series if you liked Percy Jackson, there is a similar vibe with the sarcasm/adventure/loners finding friendships type thing.

Marek Egbers Fore some reason i had trouble starting on the last 50 pages i did the 330 in four days and took almost a week to tell myself that there wouldn't be such a ending but damn i was stunned and in disbelief on the ending i felt silent for the entire evening...

Kariti Barre .I was completely shocked that I was shocked. On some level I saw it coming but kept telling myself lies that she wouldn’t do that to us readers. I suppose the unpredictable predictably kept me reading. I hope I don’t have to wait too long for the next one 😥.
