هذا الكتاب هو اختياري لدولة ألمانيا في مشروعي لكتب من حول العالم.
أظن أنني من آخر الناس الذين قرأوا مذكرات آن فرانك. وفكرت في هذا الكتاب كثيرا. أول شيء فكرت فيه هو مدى صدق محتواه. خاصة بعد أن عرفت أنه توجد نسختان منه، نسخة نشرت في البداية وقد اقتطع منها والدها (وهو الناجي الوحيد منهم) المقاطع التي كتبتها آن عن والدتها وبعض أفكارها الحميمية، ثم نُشرت نسخة كاملة وهي التي قرأتها بعض إضافة هذه الأجزاء. يطرح هذا سؤال، ما الذي تم اقتطاعه أو تعديله أيضا؟

هذه مذكرات فتاة بدأت كتابتها في سن 12 أو 13 عاما حتى كادت تتم 15 عاما، وهي مختبئة مع عائلتها ومعارفهم وعددهم 8 أشخاص في قسم سري من مقر عمل والدها، في البداية كانت شخصية آن لا تُحتمل، وشعرت بالشك من جدوى قراءة مذكرات كاملة لها، لكن بعد اضطرارهم إلى الاختباء، تكتسب شخصية آن بعدا إضافيا بينما تظل تراودها أفكار عن الفتى الذي تحبه ومشاكلها مع أهلها الذين لا يفهمونها مثل أي مراهقة.

أظن أن هذه المذكرات كانت لتكون أساسا جيدا لكتاب عن المخبأ السري لعائلة فرانك كما أرادت آن، كانت لتكون أكثر تأثيرا من نشرها ككتاب منفصل. لأنها في بعض الأحيان لا تتعدى كونها مجرد أفكار فتاة صغيرة وخاصة أنها فيها تكرارية كبيرة جدا وليس فيها تعريف بالحقبة والظروف الكاملة. أظنها كانت لتكون أفضل كجزء من كتاب أو مشروع عن الحرب بدلا من كونها كتابا منفصلا،.
لكن لا أنكر أهمية الكتاب في مجال السير الذاتية والمذكرات.

This book is my choice for Germany for Read Around the World challenge.
I think I'm one of the few people who still hadn't read Anne Frank's diary. This book made me think a lot. One thing I thought of is authenticity, after knowing that there were a couple of versions: the first version that was published omitted a lot of what Anne wrote about her mother and her sexual feelings, afterwards the definitive edition was published adding whatever was omitted. IS that all or are there anything else that we don't know about? how much was edited?

It's a diary of a young girl who started writing it at the age of 12~13 till almost 15 and she goes through a lot. At the beginning, she was insufferable, and I couldn't see the point of reading it, but when she starts facing their dreadful situation and she goes into hiding with her family, she gains this deep perspective while also having thoughts of her crush and troubles with her parents who don't understand her, like every teenager.

I think these diaries would've been a good basis for a book about the Secret Annex with its 8 residents, like Anne wanted. The residents of the secret Annex who spent almost two years in hiding are Ann, her sister Margot, and her mother and father, The Van Daans family which consisted of a mother and a father and their son Peter, and a family friend.

These diaries hold so much weight but they're still the writings of a young girl and sometimes they're not more than that. They illustrate their daily lives and some context to what's happening, but on their own, they're touching towards the end but would've been better as a part of a big project on the war.

But I still don't deny its importance in the diaries/memoir genre.
