3 Truths and a Lie by Lisa Gardner
(Detective D.D. Warren #7.5)
With this short story we get a couple of hours in the life of D.D. Warren as she psyches herself up for a difficult challenge that she feels is way above her ability to perform. She is about to stand in front of authors of thrillers and give a 50 minute class on what it's actually like to be a homicide detective. The story does some thrill writer name dropping (someone by the name of Slaughter, for instance) and D.D. draws the crowd in by making the case she talks about being a competition to see who can find out the lie in this 3 truths and a lie homicide. A seedy motel, a hooker, and a sawed off leg is involved in this puzzler. I enjoy these short stories between the novels as they usually give an opportunity for some humor amongst the mayhem.

I agree with the short stories from time to time to break things up especially if a book has been heavy going. Great review a d seasons greetings Marilyn 💖

Thank you, Jayme...it's fun to use a short story to acknowledge real world thrillers. 💗

Great review Marilyn! I have tended to avoid these shorter books but maybe I should rethink that. ❤️

They are really quick and easy reads and often on the lighter side. Thanks, Pat 🥰

DD has changed so much from book #1...back then she was wearing tight jean, stilettos, and I pictured the wind blowing through her curly golden locks as she stood on the edge of a skyscraper. Now days she has baby puke down the front of her shirt and she's too tired to manage high heels. 🤣

I've read most of these short stories, but I'm not sure if I've read this one. I'll have to go back and check!

It's a nice change of pace from the stress of the novels 😁
