Yes, she had a black dad, and a white mom. The book described her skin color as light brown maybe. She did have freckles, curly hair and green-blue eyes, so definitely a mix between her parents.
She’s Black??? Lol the book was so vague about that. And I’ve seen so many people say she didn’t read like a Black Character (and how some of the words used to describe her hair were gross and negative especially since a white woman wrote this book). The book “hinted” at her being Black but never said it which is just weird and bad writing imo
I envisioned Z Daddy as black, and V as mixed Latinx or Latinx/black. Either way both were POC
But Ryan (the twin brother to V) is described as blonde haired with ocean blue eyes- so when I got to that novel I assumed they were white and Latinx. Several times Z referred to her “light brown p*ssy” and I’m pretty sure once he said “light caramel”.
Either way I feel she was vague enough to let your imagination fill it in.
As far as how she talked about her hair- I don’t feel the author was putting her her feelings about POC hair, but Maybe was trying to convey how the character felt bc that is what the mother felt- I assumed the mother was white.
Well now thinking about it Z is probably mixed bc when V saw his mother going in to Zs apt she thought it was his sister and she described her. I can’t remember exactly how she was described, but I think she said long blonde hair? I’ve already returned the book so I can’t check.

How do you not imagine a black girl when the first parts she insecurity about her curves and her uniform being tight on her and she talks about how Indy is narrow and fit. This is normal black women insecurities 🥴😂
