The fantastic elements aside, he does a spectacular job developing characters and sewing political intrigue. I love how each chapter is from that character's perspective, and you see what their understanding is of a particular event, but sometimes those perspectives aren't right, and that changes everything.(less)

Write and read everyday.
When you first start your writing is going to be choppy and disjointed. You'll have to rely on the plot to get you through. You will go through days where you write and it's horrible, but that's ok because you're going to have to edit anyway. Take Anne Lamott's advice and just get through the sh****y first draft.
You also need to read because you need to read other's styles. You need to absorb everyone's voices, because it's the only way you'll discover your own voice.(less)

Thankful for Fantasy

“Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope, and that enables you to laugh at life’s realities.” – Dr. Seuss.

“Fantasy, abandoned by reason, produces impossible monsters, united with it, she is the mother of the arts and the origin of marvels.” Francisco Goya.

“Fantasy is hardly an escape from reality. It’s a way of understandi
