Thoroughly enjoyed zipping through this comforting read on my Florida vacation. Such a compelling hook: during the London air raids of 1941, three orphans are hoping that a temporary living situation in the country will turn into their forever home. ...more

A mixed bag of cool premise, fun kid characters (especially Seth—more of him please!), amazingly bland adult characters (especially the grandpa), decent story grip, steady vanilla prose, and a surprisingly lame climax. Yet I will still probably read ...more

J.R.R. Tolkien
“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

C.S. Lewis
“The homemaker has the ultimate career. All other careers exist for one purpose only - and that is to support the ultimate career. ”
C.S. Lewis

C.S. Lewis
“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”
C.S. Lewis

Neil Gaiman
“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”
Neil Gaiman, Coraline

G.K. Chesterton
“I have little doubt that when St. George had killed the dragon he was heartily afraid of the princess.”
