A great intro to the surprisingly accessible world of building your own telescopes. When you get right down to it, a telescope is nothing more than a tube with a mirror and an eyepiece, so just about anyone can build one.

Will report later on how my own building experience went :)

This book provides the principles of image processing as applied to astronomy. Because these images are usualy much longeer exposures than other types of digital images, there are additional considerations involved in the processing and this book addresses them. it is therefore a useful book for an introduction to the principles that are applied to processing images by astronomy software more recent than this book's publication.

The "Handbook," including the AIP4WIN software, was a labor of love for the astronomical community. Berry & Burnell, in a book that is used as a textbook in some college courses, go through nearly every aspect of CCD astrophotography and image analysis, astrometry, photometry, and spectroscopy, showing the reader both how it is done in general, and how it is done with the included AIP4WIN program. Recommended for serious amateurs and professionals.
