About the Author
Bruce Bliven Jr. was a prolific writer of popular books and magazine articles on a broad range of subjects. Bliven began his career as a newspaper reporter and later wrote for several national magazines, including LIFE and the New Yorker. During World War II, he was a lieutenant in the 29th show more Division field artillery and took part in the D-Day landings in Normandy. Following the war, he resumed his writing career and wrote more than a dozen books for adults and children, most of them on United States history.
