It's been a few years since I've read any Fletcher and I think my expectations were a bit too high. Don't get me wrong, I liked the two main characters and thought the story was interesting and fun but there was so much history, description, and general world building that I didn't get to spend as much time engrossed in the action as I wanted. If this is the first book in a new series, then I can see the need for all of that but if this is a stand alone, then I think it was too much.

I think fans of Jane Fletcher's novels will enjoy The Shewstone.

Thanks to BSB and NetGalley for the review copy.

Like many other reviews have already said, this book has a bit of everything: science fiction, romance, history, and fun. I've read a few other books by the author and enjoyed them but this one has a very different feel to me. I got into the story a lot more once we were on the island.

The romance was light but the action and adventure were heavy, which is much more my cup of tea.

I definitely recommend this one to any lesfic readers who are also big fans of historical and/or science fiction novels.

Thanks to Bold Strokes and NetGalley for the copy!

I very much enjoyed getting to know Tevi and Jemeryl and absolutely look forward to reading the second book in the series.

Fantasy in almost entirely non-magic sense, on a planet with only women who have found a way to reproduce believed to be a gift of the Goddess, there are rebel leaders who must be eliminated, and the naive Guard Natasha is recruited to assist in the mission. Nothing in this story comes as a surprise, but it's not precisely painful and if you could use some male free reading time, this is here for you.
