Humorous aubiographical tale of a soldier sent as a translator who realized after he got there that he didn't actually speak Vietnamese. Yet it was his job to persuade the villagers to plant the new, more productive rice, which tasted terrible.

Episodes of ironic times in Vietnam. He siad he needed distance from it to write it: too much distance, not enough detail, plot, forward trajectory, or character development.

This book is a moving account of Jeffrey's terrible diving accident and recovery as told by his dad. It's a book you will read again and again
