This book was quite interesting and allowed readers to develop an understanding of the important values of the Japanese culture. These values ranged from story to story and included morals such as the value of a hard day's work and the importance of kindness. The stories all contain simple plots and are no longer than five pages in length. The illustrations were a unique feature in this book as they switched from being black and white to color. They also conveyed different aspects from the Japanese culture. For example, the style of dress is depicted in all of the tales. While each story contains its own moral, the big idea of this text is to delight young readers with Japanese tales with relatable morals.… (more)
