This is a useful reference for scrap quilt lovers. Instead of just presenting series of patterns to duplicate the author starts with broadly defining scrap quilts. The next section is a discussion of how to combine different types of prints to create blocks with a separate discussion of plaids and stripes. The last section is on fold art quilting and how to free- cut and design on a design wall. Her techniques are meant to help liberate creativity and allow the quilter to create something unique.

It's hard to believe that this book is now over 20 years old as I write this. It revolutionized and emboldened our use of patterned fabrics, including directionals and ethnic textiles.

I have spent hours experimenting with directional fabrics and have found no better book treating this subject than this one by Roberta Horton. Plentiful illustrations and directions to get anyone started are two of the hallmarks of the book. I especially appreciate Ms. Horton's non-perfectionist attitude.
