As a kid I thought this was the greatest thing, although not sure I undertook a single one of the projects! They can be fairly involved--for example, the Cree trail toboggan (very much so-called) has the kid start a fire and put a vast cauldron on to boil--a cauldron I have never seen in my life, bigger than a man. Hmmm. As I recall (I don't have the book, and it's taken me years to find the title), there are ankle-high and calf-high moccasin designs. An English punt, an "Eskimo" (an offensive term where I come from) komatik or sled, a catamaran, snowshoes, birdhouses--some fun stuff.… (more)

A whole how-to book of Boy Scouting skills from a bygone age. I guess kids did stuff like this before gaming and texting took over the attention of the nation's youth. It seems so... useful and wholesome, plus educational about certain historical matters. How interesting that boys once did intricate beadwork for their Indian costumes.
