Let me begin with telling that normally I like Hyacinth 's books. They are entertaining and provide me with some light reading that I just need sometimes.

But I don't like this book at all. I had to pressure myself to get through part one. But no more. I'm done.

WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!

Keenan is a douche. A controlling, idiotic douche.
I'm sorry but in what world is it ok to tell yourself that it is your partners fault that you nearly lost control? Even if you later realise that you were wrong doesn't make it right.
Especially when you go on and on about how it is your partners fault because he got close to someone else. Even though you can read his mind en he tells you the other person is just a friend!

Boohoo you dear pet has a heart and cares about people...

Well Eric was a dummie too because he would stand up for himself but two seconds later he blames himself. Still he had an excuse, with his cruel family and his mental health problems.
I liked him way better than king-of-the-douches Keenan.

I'm sorry to say that I will not continue this book. I will try the next one but if it is about these two....

Again another fun addition to this series. While all the books run along the same lines the author keeps coming up with little twists and turns along the way. Although a little more background/explanation in this one would probably have served the series better. Maybe that will come in the next set of books.

Lovely, basic, pure escapism!

This one is rated slghtly lower than the others in the series. Mainly because really it's even more out there than the first ones. There were just a few things that were more incongruous than before...

Byron has popped up in the previous books. And while it's always been made clear that he is an unusual person even for a shifter, it's not until this book that we find out how unusual... he's not just a normal shark, no he's a prehistoric shark...a megalodon. And due to a "genetic twist" in his human form he has (like sharks do) a double penis... So twice the pleasure right? Yes, maybe but Skylar is a seahorse... and a virgin to boot. So having sex means in principle being DP'd every time... that would make life interesting.

Add to that the mpreg (which I really don't an issue with) and overall you are left with a story that is even more out there than usual. So while I enjoyed the book, I really can't give it more than the three star rating. But I'm continuing on with the series. I need to know how the rest of it pans out...

For a short story, these books are fully packed.

Yes, they are insta-love, but with "mate" in the title, that is to be expected. And in shifter stories I find I don't have an issue with it. Because in this series, it's actually not necessarily "insta-love" as so much "instantly knowing we are mates and meant to be together". The "I love you" bit is not mentioned immediately (unlike the sex lol) and there are always some issues to be sorted before everlasting love gets declared. And that is one thing I really like about this series.… (more)
