What Can I say? Definitely some stories age better than others.
It's probably not fair to state these stories feel mostly unoriginal, given that they are older than most similar stories.

New Worlds, Highway J, The Tin You Touch, The Man Who Saw the Future were all fairly basic. Although they were all published between 1930 & 1952.
The Tin You Touch also had a very casual portrayal of domestic violence as well, which does make me wonder if it was actually that common and accepted in the early 1950s?

Asimov's "Does a Bee Care?" was not his best, but followed an interesting enough idea.
Eric Frank Russel's "The Sin of Hyacinth Peuch" & Phillip K Dick's "Piper in the Woods" were both well-written enough to be quite enjoyable.

These are early stories from some of the best authors....and some of these authors not at their best. I've read at least half of these stories in other collections and remember (and re-read) them fondly; but the weak ones are still weak.

I'm pretty sure the description which is from the back of the book is false advertising.
-------------------------

I could only make it through 2 stories:

~ The Mysterious Card by Cleveland Moffett - 2* - It was readable but had a stupid ending // I came across this later: "The story ends without a clear resolution, leaving the readers to ponder the mystery. The author revealed the solution to this puzzle in the sequel, "The Mysterious Card Unveiled," which he didn't publish until the next year, to keep his readers in suspense " Well no wonder I thought it was a stupid ending.

~ "Man Overboard!" by Winston S. Churchill - 2*
-------------------------

The oldest story in the book is from 1896, newest 1933 (2nd newest 1908). I think that was part of my problem. I'm not a strong enough reader to get through old fashioned dialect and enjoy myself. I am grateful for this book to help me remove some turn of the century books from my TO READ list.

Sam Moskowitz has gathered an anthology of robot stories with the classics "I, Robot" by Eando Binder and "Misfit" by Michael Fischer, among others. My favorite was "Helen O'Loy" by Lester Del Rey -- a story of a female robot who falls in love with her owner.
All of the stories provide entertainment that you wish would not end. Overall a great introduction to some of the great science fiction authors of the early days that will leave you searching for their other books.
