This book was hilarious! And it was also disheartening and embarrassing and sad.
I truly enjoyed the stories that Amber Ruffin and Lacey Lamar shared, primarily about stories of racism Lacey experienced in her hometown of Omaha, NE. Knowing a lot of the areas involved made it relatable. It's just sad that most of these stories occurred during Lacey's adult life (which would be present day, which means that racists run rampant in my home state). It's disgusting and discouraging. But I love, LOVE the positive spin Amber (Lacey's sister) and Lacey put on the issues. Clearly, these are issues Black Americans deal with on a regular basis. This is not okay. They are not saying it's okay. It's simply a fact that they've learned to deal with it as a part of their day-to-day lives.
I do feel like maybe something about having read this book (listened to them read it, actually) will make me more aware and considerate and just smarter. But I can't speak for everyone in my state/country. We clearly still have a VERY long way to go.
Thank goodness Amber and Lacey were able to laugh about it. I'd highly recommend this book, for the laughs as well as for the wake-up call!

O.M.G. I am so ashamed of my race after reading this book. The things that people will say or do to another human being are atrocious. Thank goodness Amber and Lacey wrote this with a sense of humor, otherwise I'd be crying tears of sadness instead of crying from laughing.

If you want to understand racism from a Black person's point-of-view, this is a great source of information. Lacey lives in Omaha, Nebraska and shares stories or racism that have happened to her. From innocent comments to egregious actions, you won't believe the crap she (and every other Black person in America) have to put up with every day. I was exhausted halfway through the book ... and I'm just reading about it. If you have an ounce of empathy and/or a willingness to understand race issues in America, do yourself a favor and pick up this book.… (more)

Outstanding. Racism is over! Just kidding, you'll still laugh until it hurts though.

The man who "won" diversity training is possibly the best racism anecdote ever.
