In this continuation of the series we backtrack to the early days when Alana, the soldier, and Marko, the prisoner, met, and how everything unfolded for them to be together. We also learn about a romance novel that is secretly (or not so secretly) causing soldiers to rebel against war.

Highly entertaining with stunning art. Recommended for 18 . Very mature subject matter. ( )

Just as enjoyable as the first volume. I love the mix of science fictions and fantasy coupled with a solid story that always leaves me wanting more. Great writing, interesting story, and beautiful graphics. ( )

Well hello new characters. I think I enjoyed this volume moreso because now everyone has a personal stake in the family's little drama.

I also enjoyed seeing some bits of Alana and Marko bonding before Hazel came to be. Marko's parents are not what I expected. I need Prince Roboto the Fourth to find himself a new hobby I really dislike him. ( )

Saga simply has no right to be as good as it is!

It's all amazing, but #11 took every ounce of strength I have to not spit take my coffee as I was cracking up at the post coitus dialogue and in the same issue I first got choked up and then was actually crying by the end.

Oh yeah, because of The Will's fantasies about The Stalk, I'm now a monster fucker, I guess? Cheers for that. ( )

I was reading this on the plane home for a weekend. I spent the ride snickering to myself and slowly realizing that I shouldn't be reading it in a public place!

I love Saga's usually humorous, sometimes dark, but overall matter-of-fact treatment of sex and sexuality. I think this was the volume with a lot of fourth-wall pinging humor that made me laugh out loud more than once. For instance, turning the page and being slammed with a full-page pin-up of Marko saying "Oh, do keep reading."

Also, can I just say: the cover. The cover. I have stared at it for up to 15 minutes at a time, and I could go on staring at it forever. Wow. So much story there---the blood, the wings of some unknown dying creature, the sword, and Marko's vague and distracted look---in one simple panel. ( )

I liked the art style.
My favourite character was Barr so looks like I’ll need to find a new one.
I found this interesting enough to continue the series. ( )

I read these two volumes back-to-back in an air port waiting room and then on a plane, so I'm writing them together. I'm so intrigued by this series and should have been reading it so much earlier than this. I should have been reading back when everyone was talking about it. I should have been reading it when it got all the possible awards and then awards.

I so many feelings about this series. About the setup, the characters, the future-past narration, the amazing everything playing back and forth, and how much heart it has everywhere already. I'm madly, deeply fascinated about what it is and curious about where it is going. I'm definitely on this train for a while to come. ( )

4.5 stars. I liked this one a little more than the first. The only reason I didn't go with a 5-star rating is that the language and images can be excessively explicit in spots, and I don't always see a point to it. Besides that, the series is creatively and humorously done—two things I value highly in my reading material. The exciting story and characters are definitely keeping me on board with this series. ( )

Not disappointed. Often volume 2 of a series does. I'm slightly concerned that there's too many plot threads though. ( )

The art style was my favorite part about this book. The story is interesting and the flow was fast-paced. I believe it's meant to build suspense, but instead it felt rushed and disjointed. I wasn't enthralled with the first volume, but I was interested enough to give this one a chance. After finished this second volume I've decided this story isn't for me. ( )

Volume Two of Saga, a graphic novel series by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples, resume the adventure of Alana and Marko, which are still fighting for the safety of their newborn daughter.

Hazel has already survived the spider-like bounty hunter The Stalk, television-headed humanoids, and many other dangers. Now, her parents have to convince her grandparents that the war between Terravista and Coroa makes no sense in a world where love still exists.

The story continues to focus on our beloved family. This offers readers the opportunity to learn through flashbacks not only about Marko's childhood and the beginning of the war but also how he met and fell in love with Alana, sowing hope for a longed-for peace. At the same time, the narrative expands with the slowdown of the action and the development of secondary characters, such as The Will, who discovers that Gwendolyn, Marko's ex-fiancée, dispatched several Freelancers to kill Alana and Marko.

The alliance between The Will and Gwendolyn is undoubtedly interesting, particular because of the reasons that form it. But what stands out is the unveiling of the relationship between The Will and The Stalk. And the increasing humanization of a character who we thought was a villain. So Brian K. Vaughan progressively blurs the line between good and evil, proving that both sides suffer as much.

As expected, the drawings are once again one of Saga's strongest points. Fiona Staples is, without doubt, an excellent artist, capable of continuing to surprise us – both with the way she creates new creatures and with the ability to give them so much strength of expression. ( )

Star-crossed lovers Marko and Alana and their baby Hazel are still on the run in Saga, Volume 2. In this volume, we also get a chance to get to know Marko's parents and of course there is a lot of action going since Marko and Alana are still being hunted across the universe.

It has actually taken me quite a long time to read this volume. I bought it last summer and I have just dragged out reading it since I knew that as soon as I read it would I want the next volume to read. And, I have been trying to be frugal so it has been sitting on a shelf for a long time. Also, quite a lot of books have come between, I have a tendency to read more on my iPad than the books I buy...

How was the volume? I can honestly say that this is one of the best series I have ever read when it comes to graphic novels. The art and the story both rocks my socks. It's science fiction, with adventure and romance, strange creature and sweet moments. And, it totally surprising and absolutely nothing that children should read. I mean there are some pretty graphic images in the volume so letting this one or any of the other volumes lying around is probably a bad idea if you have curious children.

There are many great moments in the volume, both funny and sad ones. And, I think it's time for me to check up volume 3... ( )

Even better than volume 1. The story really starts to pull together the different strands and it all starts to make more sense. The backstory parts helped as well. I mean what's not to like about a Romeo and Juliet couple with horns and wings in the middle of a war with a bounty hunter that has a cat that is a lie detector and the ghost of an eviscerated girl as a babysitter for your kid. This reminds me of that sf TV show Farscape which I was wild about as well. Can't wait for volume 3.

The other great thing about this is the aliens, well they actually look alien, especially when you stuff them into 3-piece suits. ( )

Excellent story -- like the art, like the arc, like the characters. An imaginative universe, but what is up with the Robots? Man, they are weird. ( )

I remember reading this and just not vibing with it originally. Cut to a couple of years later, and a buddy convinces me to try it again, and I was HOOKED. Cut to several years later yet again, and re-reading the entire series in anticipation of the release of the very long overdue next issue in the series after hiatus, and damn this story still holds up. I don't know ( )

I can appreciate the story, and I can see why the series is popular (hence the 4 stars) but it's not for me. I don't like the artwork and the story fails to bring me into their world. Maybe I should have read this series before The Incal. ( )

Another solid volume. I'm really enjoying these characters and we got a bit of backstory this time which was excellent. Still NSFW or minors (really really NSF minors...) ( )

This is fun. I like the fact that it presents a few clichés, but quickly turns into the unexpected. It has a nice sense of humour mixed with the grotesque. And more important, it plays with our emotions, that's why this book is so thrilling. I'm moving forward with the next volumes. ( )

I enjoyed the first volume of this series. But this one? Damn. So good.

You've got everything here: Life. Death. Sex. Violence. Love. Hate.

And even more brilliant? The comparison of a single relationship to a war that never ends. The writing is superb. The art is sublime. It's fantasy, and SF, and keenly observed relationships all mashed into something that not only works well, but is also entertaining as hell.

Read this. ( )

The story continues! We have the core family and the outinlaws on the run in a wooden rocketship, trying to lose all manner of bounty hunters and the war between their species behind. Oh, this is a story.

It always is.

You haven moments that feel oh so real:

And the idea of marriage bands that double as translation rings. That would be handy a lot of times in life:

Even if there are a few problems when talking with rather crude giants. Did I mention how adult these books are?

And that... was how I met your mother.

Onward!

Marko and Alana are lovers from different species (ram head and angel wings), which are at war with each other. They continue their attempts to evade hired mercenaries, who want them and their baby dead, seeking shelter with Marko's parents, who are initially less than pleased about their relationship. Good storylines continue. Excellent illustrations from Fiona Staples. 4.5 stars. When's Volume 3 coming? ( )
