A stand-alone book, this tells the story of President Harrison Tucker just a few weeks before re-election. As news breaks about his affair, the First Lady goes missing. Secret Service agents are quickly sent out to try to find the First Lady and the Chief of Staff is making moves of his own to ensure she doesn't get found. Has she simply run away and is in hiding or is she in danger? ( )

Barbara McBride butchered this book. Her mispronunciation of Maryland and Potomac made me cringe every time. Didn't anyone listen to this before publishing? Did anyone hear her pronounce these incorrectly?

Anyway, the story was good but predictable. I think this is the lowest rating I have ever given a Patterson book. ( )

This was a gift. I would never have purchased it, because it's written in present tense. I hate that pretentious style of writing. ( )

The president is having a passionate affair with a member of his PR staff, but alas, the media catches on and all hell breaks loose. This was a delightful part soap opera, part thriller, part mystery as we see who will come out ahead in our little chess game. The first lady, one of I think only a handful of characters we were supposed to like in this one, is not going to take what happened lying down. But when she goes missing, bad turns to worse… and then MUCH worse. An entertaining beach read.

Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader.

I enjoyed it more than I expected to! I will need to read a few more Patterson novels, but this one and The President's Daughter seem to have the same idiots in office and the same bad guy scape goat. Sorry if that spoils your enjoyment of which ever one you read second. ( )

The president is caught with another woman. The First Lady to escape the stress and questions goes out to ride her horse. She disappears. The secret service has lost her. The chief of staff hearing of the president’s affair, is concerned about the chance of reelection in the upcoming election, weeks away. The White House receives a ransom note. Everyone is trying hard to find the First Lady before the press gets wind of it. Everyone is hoping for her safe return except for one person. This mystery will keep you guessing as to the outcome of the story. ( )

This was definitely more like a James Patterson book. Moved along nicely with only one or two slow parts, which has not really been the norm for him lately. Yes the First Lady was fictional, but it was nice that they were given names as opposed to some stories that just refer to them as the President and First Lady. I loved how she was a strong woman with her own mind. I hope to see more of that in many books going forward. ( )

A light political thriller and a good collaboration, kudos to Brendan Dubois. I read [b:The Cornwalls Are Gone|42837487|The Cornwalls Are Gone|James Patterson|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1550720566s/42837487.jpg|63082716] and I much prefer The First Lady between the two. There are a few unanswered parts but overall this was a fun and quick read. ( )

Sally Grissom, Special Agent in Charge, Presidential Protective Division. She heads the department that is responsible for protecting the President of the US. She is in the middle of a contentious divorce and is doing the single mom gig for her daughter. Life isn’t simple or easy at work or home. And it has just gotten worse.

It seems the President has been caught with his mistress in public. The head of the US who is up for a second term and is also married and has a good, clean image. Make that “had.” He now has to get damage control in place and it isn’t going to be easy, as it appears his wife has suddenly gone missing!

Parker Hoyt, the President’s Chief of Staff, has been with the President since the early days of his political career. Hoyt is the man behind the curtain who has the connections and pulls the strings to keep things looking good for the President’s image. Now he is faced with the complications of the missing First Lady.

He calls Sally Grissom to handle finding the First Lady, but to do it covertly with no publicity or leaks, even within the security departments that serve to protect the President. When a ransom note arrives at the White House, along with the tip of a finger, the heat really cranks up. Could this be a good distraction from the President’s indiscretion?

James Patterson and Brendan DuBois have written a tense, fast paced plot. Sally Grissom is a tough cookie who takes her job and her parenthood very seriously. Parker Hoyt is a force to be reckoned with. Strong personalities and a tense situation that may involve life and death make for a good read.

I like that the chapters are short and full of action. Even ifyou only have a short time you can still get a good dose of the plot and action, moving you further along in the book. ( )

I enjoyed this. The Chapters were short and it was tightly written. It kept me reading without boredom. I'm not sure how credible the plot was, but a suspension of belief is not a bad thing. Parker Hoyt was a nasty character, but not a very well rounded one. Only things is, I would love to know what happened at the Election!!! ( )

Sally Grissom leads the White House Secret Service force, so when the president is caught in an affair and the First Lady goes missing, Sally has to find a way to balance her work with her home life. However, when larger political plots begin, she finds herself in a web of lies that could cost her and the First Lady their lives. ( )

"The First Lady" was a compelling, political thriller and one of Patterson's better books of late. It started with a bang and stayed a page-turner until the last page, with action, drama, twists and turns all the way along. The main female characters were strong and courageous but I found the President weak and Parker Hoyts, the President's Chief of Staff, was conniving and power-hungry. Overall, an entertaining read. *maybe* 3.5: If you’re looking for a quick read and you’re willing to suspend a fair chunk of logic, you may enjoy this. Some parts are more outrageous/less satisfying than others. Overall, I’m happy to have had it as a diversion. ( )

Deleted tape. couldn’t stand the voice of the narrator. Book may be ok. - just not this version.
Too many books, too little time. ( )

The President has an affair, the First lady goes missing. Was she murdered to cover up the affair? Did she run away? No one knows. ( But I guessed) The Secret Service is Frantic and FBI get involved. I thought the story/plot was fairly predictable. I did have one surprise. It was ok. ( )

Pretty good tale, but not a superb writer. ( )

The exposure of President Harrison Tucker’s affair ignites a media firestorm and threatens his re-election. He’ll need the show the voters that the First Lady has forgiven him and is standing by his side.

But Grace does not intend to do any such thing. Instead, she slips out, away from her Secret Service agents and goes “off the radar.” But troubling information soon surfaces and it appears that the First Lady could be in far greater danger than anyone believed possible.

Believable characters, both central and secondary, populate this thriller; strong storylines weave together to provide a rich tapestry for the narrative while unexpected plot twists and short chapters work to keep the suspense building. Tension mounts as the story unfolds leading to an unexpected ending.

Recommended. ( )

The US President is caught having an affair four weeks before his upcoming reelection and the First Lady walks out, and subsequently disappears. What follows is a story of secrets, double-crossing, and backstabbing.
While I typically enjoy James Patterson books, this one was just OK.
